Haloo Haloo!

Agree. Although, there seems to be a fair number of Bachmann clones here too.

Meh. At least we're all treated even-steven.

The last two political boards I belonged to, the first one was practically a twin of the second, pretty evenly balanced as far as political stripe, this was through the 08 election.

Then, about three months later, there was kind of a political lull, and just from a regular member and observer's perspective, the board deteriorated into bicker wars, maybe because the politics were pretty much over and everyone was just left with the hard lumps.

In no more than three days the board started slowing down, in two weeks it had lost it's "critical mass" of activity to attract new posters and just death-spiraled, vanishing from the net in another two months with maybe five or six "what happened?" posts during that time...

And I myself was the only member (I know of) who then went to the second board... it seemed a lot of my friends had lost all interest in politics...

So, I kind of saw "writing on the wall" at the last place... was starting to develop all the symptoms...

Thx :)

Welcome Thx.....how's your city coming along? You had quite an impressive thing going with that game....you could show us what else you've done with it if you are still playing that game.

Anyway, I think you will like it here a lot better. Hope you stay and enjoy posting here and getting to know the members. Be sure to visit "The Tavern" where it is very relaxed and everyone seems to get along regardless of political leaning. I'm really glad to see you again.

Hello everyone, Thx here, the newest newbie.

I have been a lurker here for awhile and am a refugee from another political board that is starting to seriously go to the dogs, turning into a regular "Trollville" where "pea-shooter" posting is fast becoming the norm. and is just not worth doing anymore.

At one time I considered myself a moderate conservative, that was before Ronald Reagan began to take us down the road of ruin.

My own father was a Nixon conservative and I could just imagine what he would say about an administration that starts stacking up debt: "Well, if you can't pay your bills I don't know what to tell you..."

Debt means failure to people of my father's brand of conservatism, this strange "Bizarroland" world of the GOP would be absolutely unrecognizable to him.

So... who brought the donuts and are there any jelly-filled left?

Thx :)
Welcome to USMB, Thx. Hope you enjoy the boards.

Will blackberry jelly donuts do? ;)

Thank you for the nice welcome and reassurance about the board and nice comments about my RollerCoaster Tycoon builds, I haven't done anything new for awhile, but perhaps when I am able to post a link in a few more posts I'll put some up.

I do miss that game and need to get back to it.. building your own little "world" there, it was and is great fun.

And I wondered about you several times Mertex ("where's Mert?!")

I like the way this forum is layed out, and you know guys, it's very hard to find any forums that are just devoted to general chat and fun...

"General" forums, the few that I could find are so old and decrepit and burned-out it takes a lot away from the experience.

One place... they allowed members to send privete "comments" anonymously... you get a vile comment and don't even know who sent it. :eusa_eh:

"Dyewwww-whip" lol

Thx :eusa_angel:

Hello, Thx...

Welcome to USMB..:)

Thank you, nice to get well, at least one welcome!

Thx :)

Since I'm the newbie just before you it doesn't seem quite my place to welcome you but, really nice to have another refugee.
Welcome, henryporter. Hope you enjoy the boards too.

Well, I ran out of steam after making the blackberry donuts, but maybe a cuppa coffee and a piece of lemon meringue pie? I used my mom's best recipe.

Based on some of your musical tastes, hopefully this will be appropriate. :)

Cool, looking forward to the music threads and maybe setting a few myself.

I have been playing drums almost as long as guitar and feel all musicians, no matter what instrument they play should adopt two others: Drums because rhythm is fundamental to all instruments, and voice to make the mind more melodic.

What kind of kit do you like?

Thx :)

Well, funny you should ask. I like several types of music, but that was not the pure inspiration to my handle here. I do not play any instruments. I took drum lessons when I was in second grade I think it was. It turns out, I do not have the patience it takes to learn drumming - I wanted to play them right away. And the lugging of the simple snare drum I was being taught on back and forth to school did not help (I lived close enough to school to prevent my parents from driving me, but far enough away so that buses did not come by my house. So yeah, it was uphill both ways to school and all that )

I am usually pretty good with most anything, other than opera, rap, or top 40 type music.

I learned to play drums because the band jammed at my house and our drummer left his kit set up there and every morning before school I'd sit down for a few minutes with the kit.

And became proficient enough our bass player used to say I was "easy to play with, refreshingly so..." much to the chagrin of our drummer.

Here is one of my favorite drummers, doing one of my favorite pieces...

Boomer. Ah. The good ol days of decent rock and roll.

Yes, I miss those days and saw the 1980s as "the beginning of the end" for so many things I appreciated.

Here is a bit more...

A modern concert, but so many great old songs before the big changes in the 1980s.

Jammin!

I really wonder if we will ever see such an era of great music again?

Thx

Yeah, I dig late 60s-early 70s when so many groups were relatively fresh and new.

Here's one of my favorite from GFR, I like it more today than when it came out.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMsIrKjSM6Y]Grand Funk Railroad - We're An American Band LIVE - 1974 - YouTube[/ame]

What I realy like is the "leading bass" or "cueing bass".. leading the group into the breaks with little pre-licks and taking a lot of pressure off the other guys and keeping things just a little tighter.

Here's another band I like more and more: The Grass Roots...

(it takes a minute, but there is a TV vid...)

I used to do a pretty fair Karaoke version, lol.

Thx :)

So glad you are here!!!

For much of my life I was an electronic technician and machinist specializing in industrial automation, I was a flight simulator technician in the Air Force...
Thanks for your service! 3E0X2, Electrical Power Production for 20 years here. :)

Thanks guy, and thank you for your service too.

Air Force? Going by your AFSC? Mine was 341x6 "Digital Tactical/Navigation training devices specialist" So I did the navigation and weapons aspect of the flight simulator. F-4 at Holloman, an old analog sim we were modifying to be shipped to the Guard, then the F-111 at Cannon AFB, a much more involved sim with full visuals and full motion base.

I enjoyed my time in the service, even though I was stationed in New Mexico, I did like my job and had it skate city in many ways over my fellow airmen... like during "alert week" two weeks actually where most troops have to be ready to go mobile, then they get to do 12 hour days for two weeks... we flight sim troops got two weeks off... paid vacation pretty much because there were no sim sorties during alerts.

Oh, and I like the 2001 theme Dave, my real original screen name is THX1138.

A friend and I saw THX in a theater back in the day and I don't think I understood the movie until many years later.

I remember an old man sitting behind us who stormed out about halfway through, wife in tow, "This is just a bunch of crap!"

Thx :D

Glad you came here too buddy, it's always easier transitioning to a new board with built-in friends there.

(oh, and you know I can't send a PM until I have 50 posts... :))

I guess we both kind of got disgusted over there about the same time.

I left for three months and came back for about six weeks and haven't really posted there for two weeks now and don't plan on any in the foreseeable future.

Maybe I'll go in there and PM a few of the good eggs who are perhaps at the end of their rope too.

Thx :)

Air Force?
Yup. If the Sim shop had a backup generator, it was guys like me who maintained it. I never went to Holloman, though.

Good stuff. Us Civil Engineering types would have been cussing you while we were on alert.

 Y'know, I've never seen it. Wonder if it's on Netflix...?

On edit: It is. Just added it to the queue. :)
