European idiots didn't know Khokhlushkas, until now....

An NHS mental health specialist who took in a Ukrainian refugee was reported for modern day slavery after she asked her guest to help out more with the dishes.

Hannah Debenham, 42, of Uckfield, East Sussex, was under investigation for two months following the accusation, before the case was dropped this week when no evidence was found.

The mother of two was asked to 'voluntarily' attend Eastbourne police station where she was questioned by a modern-day slavery inspector, which she branded 'the worst experience of my life'. Officers also spent two hours at her home with her husband.

Detective Chief Inspector Gavin Patch, of Sussex Police, defended his force's action today, telling MailOnline the investigation was 'expedited as quickly as possible', adding that it takes any report of slavery 'very seriously'.

The refugee, a mother who cannot be named for legal reasons, complained to police that she was 'expected to clear up and tidy up the house for little to no money under the disguise of the Ukrainian settlement scheme', according to the police report.

Ms Debenham told MailOnline: 'It was just devastating. We just wanted to help. If I was charged I would have had to declare that and it would have been a permanent impediment to my career.

'They also spoke to my husband and told him that I could face life in prison if I was found guilty.

'I've been an NHS mental health specialist for 15 years and I have often worked with people with severe mental illness supporting their needs in police custody, and this happening to me was the worst experience of my life.'

Ms Debenham said her solicitor described the action by Sussex Police as an 'outrageous overreach.'

The Ukrainian family had been living with Ms Debenham for just three weeks when the accusation was levelled.

The Homes for Ukraine scheme has been blighted by issues, with host families regularly falling out with their guests due to deep cultural differences.

Scores of Britons were also left out of pocket by delays to their £350 payments, promised by the Government for each refugee family taken in.

MailOnline previously reported how some Britons felt they had been 'duped' by 'non-vulnerable' Ukrainians. But one refugee, Ludmila Zosym, said it was the UK hosts who cannot understand their visitors as they have never fled from war.

Ms Debenham's saga began when she and her husband, who also works in the NHS, were looking for an au pair to work in their eight-bedroom home.

Ukrainian reported British host for 'slavery' for making her do DISHES

The nurse wanted an au pair for her 8 bedroomed home. That is not what the Ukrainians are here for. People take them in to help them find their bearings. They get a small amount of money for doing this. Although keeping her as a slave may be a bit of an exaggeration, this woman should not have been put in a situation where she was expected to be an au pair rather than Refugee. Some of these placements have worked and others not so for many reasons. This one just sounds like the wrong person was sent to the wrong house. Although slavery sounds a bit of an overstatement the refugee ought not to have been expected to do much more than looking after their own stuff and maybe a little help in other areas she used. I think one of the reasons some of these placements have not worked is that people were not really expecting to have to look after them for more than say 3 months max.

No good deed goes unpunished.

If somebody was living in my house I would expect them to help out some of the daily chores, no matter who they are.

I guess you are a supporter of 24/7 welfare for 'refugees' paid by taxpayers?
It isn't going to make any difference to UK tax payers if Refugees are used as au pairs and kept cleaning the house all day long. That however is not what this scheme is for. It is also by far the cheapest way of looking after refugees.

In a few, short, words OP, what's the concern about regarding the Ukrainian refugees?

Yes, to help as a member of the house, not as an au pair. An au pair works for their living expenses just for the fun of being in another country. This woman was paid £350 for the refugee's living expenses and was expected to help her settle in and know everything she needed to know as well as making sure she had no emotional things she needed help with. That was the agreement. It was when I noted she had wanted an au pair that I thought it did look like there was a problem.

By the way.
More as 90% of all 'refugees' in Europa are those from the West Ukraine where happens nothing
True refugees from the East aren't allowed by the state to leave Ukraine

Long story short

Better to let two African refugees in as one from the West Ukraine

My concern is my money.
The war between Russia and Ukraine isn't our war, I don't want to pay even one cent to support a failed 'state' like Ukraine full of Nazis, whores and thieves

So your problem is just with who the people are. You just needed to say you don't want anyone to give the people of West Ukraine Refugee status because you don't like them. I'm finished,

People were though wanting this scheme to also give Afghan Refugees and others a start as well.

The war in Ukraine is only in some small palces in the East Part.
Almost all 'refugees' come from the secure West part where are neither war nor another problems
Moreover 'refugees' from the West part rent their apartments out to the true refugees for horror rents, up to $2k for 300 sq ft

Better to accept the true refugees from Africa or Syria as Nazis from the West Ukraine

The woman in the UK was looking for an au pair. The Ukrainian woman had an online listing for a nanny and live-in tutor job.

The UK woman came up with the idea of the Homes for Ukraine scheme. The rules of the program specifically prohibit work in exchange for accommodation.

Anyone not raised by wolves has the manners to happily pitch in and do their share for someone who is offering them refuge from a horrible situation.

You're an idiot. Do you realize that all the Ukrainian cities have been bombed?
