Harris campaign admits Walz ‘misspoke’ about past military career as ‘stolen valor’ criticism grows

10 Aug 2024 ~~ By Jon Levine

Vice President Harris’ presidential campaign admitted Friday that her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz “misspoke” about his past military service as a growing chorus of critics accuse him of “stolen valor.”
“Governor Walz would never insult or undermine any American’s service to this country — in fact, he thanks Senator Vance for putting his life on the line for our country. It’s the American way,” Team Harris said in a statement to NBC News Friday.
“In making the case for why weapons of war should never be on our streets or in our classrooms, the Governor misspoke. He did handle weapons of war and believes strongly that only military members trained to carry those deadly weapons should have access to them, unlike Donald Trump and JD Vance who prioritize the gun lobby over our children.”
Walz had been facing pressure to clarify his military record after a 2018 video surfaced of him touting his career in the National Guard as a reason for increased gun control.
“We can make sure that those weapons of war, that I carried in war, is the only place where those weapons are at,” Walz said in the clip, which was posted to Harris’ own campaign X account on Tuesday.

Commentary:
There's blood in the water now. Harking back to the Kerry campaign of 2004, Remember how his former swift boat mates called him a liar, and accused him of false valor too?
Veterans have long been angry that Walz, for years publicly identified himself as a retired command master sergeant — despite having been demoted when he retired before completing the two-year commitment required for that rank.
“He used stolen valor for personal gain,” Schilling told The Post. “It’s bad in the eyes of the soldiers, especially now if he is one step away from commander-in-chief and doesn’t step up to lead. Walz has been accused by Vets and Troops of embellishment lackluster career record and lying about war activity. Walz is also a socialist and anti American.
“In our world, to drop out after a WARNORD [warning order] is issued is cowardly, especially for a senior enlisted guy, ”running for Congress is not an excuse,” Thomas Behrends said of Walz’s decision to quit. “I stopped everything and went to war. I left my wife with three teenagers and a 6-year-old and I was gone for 19 months. ”Behrends, the command sergeant major who replaced Walz, said “He had opportunity to serve his country, and said ‘Screw you’ to the United States.” He knew months ahead if not almost a year of potential deployment.
So here's a synopsis of the Walz Resume:
  • He served 24 years in the National Guard,
  • Walz never saw combat in war
  • He infamously retired from his unit shortly before they were deployed to Iraq.
  • He said he bolted so he could run for Congress.
  • Walz now faces heat from vets for embellishing his rank.
  • The two-term governor has long falsely billed himself as a retired Command Sergeant Major.
  • Walz was demoted when he retired to the lower rank of master sergeant.
In Dem-speak, Walz "misspoke" meaning he got caught out in a lie that even their low-information supporters seem to be noticing.
