Not that I expect any of the usual anti-gun trogs to engage in a meaningful discussion on the issue...

What will this achieve?

There are maybe 25,000,000 AR15s in private hands - -just- AR15s.
Lets say 5,000,000 are "bought back".
That leaves 20,000,000 AR15s in the possession of criminals, and creates of a huge black market for same.

How, specifically, does this make us safer?

They should have taken the guns before trying to defund the police.

Once again, poor planning.
