Every piece of our contemporary, mainstream culture comes from influence.
This is the influence we have had.
Italian influence.
The widespread usage of 4 letter words comes from Italian immigrants who sought to make a name for themselves, especially in anger.
Italian food comes from Italians, obviously.. but much of the other foods we have here in the USA as opposed to what they have in Italy itself, has come from the Italians having the right to innovate and invent things, because we don't have food culture protection laws.
Throughout American history the Italians have spread out, but the best Italian American food in America is found in Philadelphia and New York City where their population is the largest.
Lunch meat has come from a variety of Influences, especially Italian, German and Irish, check out Black Bear and Deitz & Watson, and Amoroso, and Stroehmann, this ability of ours has come from the Italian American immigrants although later competition is responsible for some of the brands.
The Dutch and the Italians are responsible for our breads and bread products.
This is the trigger for the development of a lot of American cuisine that they STILL don't have the ability to make in Europe.
Black American Influence.
Barbecue is actually a Black or "African American" invention.
Once the product of necessity because they couldn't afford modern conveniences like indoor ovens and stoves and ranges,
Today its an Icon of Americans of ALL economic classes and races.
Hotdogs used to be total crap...
I wouldn't have eaten a hotdog back when they first came out.
Hotdogs started out, as a cheap and viable, easily mass produced way to get meat into the mouths of the poor.
Today that has given way to being a range of entire dishes of its own, and being high quality because of a JEWISH businessman who came out with the brand "Hebrew National" that used high quality pure beef.
Hotdogs are eaten by people of ALL economic classes.
French Influence.
We don't have a lot of French influence, except though trade of commercial products like cosmetics and fashion.
This also overlaps with Italian influence.
Its likely why our women are as feminine as they are.
We don't have women with hairy legs, because it doesn't go well with the French and Italian fashions for women that have influenced American culture.
Cajun Influence.
Cajun people are a new race of people, found only in the USA and they have come about because of the cross breeding of Black, French and Native Americans, and then staying to themselves over time.
Cajun food is fairly limited because of their extremely dirt poor economics, however it has given rise to Gumbo, and Black beans and Rice, in America.
British Influence.
The USA was founded by the British, that is obviously where we get our language, with distance, time and development and foreign influences being a factor in our usage of it.
And our math system.
