That said, I know two business owners who are not evil - one sponsored my little league teams for 12 years - and though I don't know their AGI I do know both voted for Obama. There is more to life - or should be - than accumulating great wealth and harboring resentment for the working poor. But that's kinda sorta a Christian Value, one which seems alien to the callous conservatives who dominate this message board.

I only harbor resentment for the NON-working poor.

He's unemployed right now, has put applications into at least 100 different places, but won't lower himself to work at Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds or our local convenience store Wawa, where they ARE hiring...so instead while he's waiting for someone to give him a job, he's on welfare.

They aren't expected to pay taxes like everyone else. They are expected to pay confiscatory and punishing taxes. Human beings are human beings, rich or poor. If they feel that they are being unfairly punished, they will leave regardless of whether or not they can afford to be punished. The object of the rich is to make more money. Money is a tool that they use to make more money. Prevent that and they will just go. When they go, they take the tax base with them. They take their businesses and their companies with them.

How hard can this be to understand? This is what we did to become a rich and powerful nation. We became the land of opportunity for rich and poor alike. If we had, at the outset, the idea that the poor could come here, but never achieve enough to be rich, we would still lack flush toilets.

The effect that European and US-style socialism will have is to create entire nations of the super wealthy. Whole countries composed of nothing but the very super rich and their servants. And, those super rich will continue making their money off the people who remain in the countries that forced them out. But, those rich will no longer have to pay anything at all towards the people who are making them even richer.

The UN will try to solve the problem with a global tax, which the rich will easily avoid with the proper application of corruption.
