History Lesson - Under 'Fascist' Bush, Democrats Feared Tyranny

Once upon a time, a group of people known as the "Democrats" expressed great fear of tyranny by government. This was a time long, long ago, when a man from a place called Texas, representing a people known as the Republicans, occupied the White House. Leaders of the Democrats feared tyranny by the Republicans and called the man from Texas racist, oppressive and tyrannical. To refresh your recollection, we offer a few examples from the distant past: Billionaire Democratic contributor George Soros. He said the George W. Bush White House displayed the "supremacist ideology of Nazi Germany" and that Bush's... and communist regimes all engaged in the politics of fear. ... Indeed, the Bush administration has been able to improve on the techniques used by the Nazi and communist propaganda machines."

Now 4 years later..... are we finding the real tyranny in Progressive ideology?

Democrats who thought it then were idiots. Same with the Republicans who think that about Obama now.

Calling a duly elected President with term limits a emperor or tyrant is moronic. POTUS is subject to congressional oversight and judicial review, Hitler was not. These comparisons and hyper-partisan attacks are idiotic no matter who makes them.

I agree that it's important to remember when the shoe was on the other foot.

I will point out that legitimate concerns about the Patriot Act and NSA actives continues today--mostly from the party that championed it back then.

Must have had something to do with the Supreme Court appointing a President who lost the Popular election, a creation of a new department with some brand spanking new powers, passing the "Patriot Act" which eroded a plethora of civil liberties, "black" sites, "enemy combatants", lying about getting warrants to conduct electronic surveillance then conducting warrantless electronic surveillance, attacking a sovereign nations because of the "Hypothetical" perception of threat and using falsified or old intelligence to buttress the case, the creation of a legal "no man's land" at Guantanamo, the use of fake news stories during prime time to further political points, the use of formerly apolitical government reports to spread propaganda, the use of torture, throwing lawyers in jail for defending terrorism clients, the use of private armies and interrogators.

It's interesting to note no elected Democratic official was advocating for Armed Resistance or Secession as a remedy to this..

The morons who thought that Bush was a Nazi are just as foolish as those who Obama is one.

....for starters.

Well said!

.

Indeed, both ends of the political spectrum specialize in behaving like silly little goofballs.

.

Bush and Cheney's cumulative body of offenses is what helped Obama get elected in the first place. People were sick of both Afghanistan AND Iraq wars by 2006. You probably thought it was just ACORN. Or were you not paying attention then?

Can you imagine what the righties would be saying if President Obama had lied us into a war?

The fucking Patriot Act is why it's so damn hard to get a driver's license....Six forms of ID. Taking off your shoes and turning in your shampoo at the airport? That's not fascism? Bush started Homeland Security. Scratch beneath the surface of that.

They can't relate to that concept. They think American history started in the early winter of 2009. Cheney is a town in Washington. Rumsfeld is an after-shave lotion and Paulson was the guy in "The Smothers Brothers" reruns on cable who is always running for president.

Shit, they can't get over the fact that Susan Rice was giving CIA approved talking points on the Benghazi attack to the media. Even though she never lied and alway qualified her statements with the fact the an investigation was still going on and we must wait for it to finish before we can really determine what happend.
