House GOP votes to ban Atheists from serving as military chaplains

Is Atheism a religion or not? (You can't have it both ways.) If it is, it should stop attacking other religions. If it is not, it does not need chaplains.

A military Chaplain does a lot more than perform religious services...they're outside the chain of command and can be approached for help if going through the chain would be difficult. They're also the unit Morale Officer. So it's not that far fetched to have a Chaplain who can perform all of a Chaplain's duties (including marriage) except religious ceremonies.

I was under the impression that they were also the unit's spiritual adviser?

It seems if we are going to have spiritual advisors in the military, those advisors should probably be people who believe in the things of the Spirit.

Well, yes, but I don't believe that's an official title.

2.
a. A member of the clergy who conducts religious services for an institution, such as a prison or hospital.
b. A member of the clergy who is connected with a royal court or an aristocratic household.
3. A member of the clergy attached to a branch of the armed forces.

Do atheists have clergy? Weird thread.

so no Satanists chaplains either?

Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, and Muslim. The Wiccans have been trying, but the requirements are at least a Masters degree in theology or religious studies and an endorsement from an organized faith group. That's hard for most Wiccans.
