House of Lords pass bill to block no-deal Brexit - forcing showdown with Boris Johnson

I'm curious, why don't you want Brexit?
It will be instant economic suicide by bureaucracy for all small businesses and many large business that deal with Europe. You have not studied any of the effects if you do not know that.

edit...Without remaining in a customs union, that is.

How on earth did they exist before the Brussels takeover?

They ASKED to join. What do people fail to understand about that?

At the time they didn't realize the EU would be such chickenshit detail freaks.
Could you link to anything to support this ?

Things like this:

Shop starts selling meat in pounds and ounces after Brexit vote triumph

A law enforced by the EU in 1995 meant that all measuring devices used in trade or retail should display measurements in metric quantities.

But Darren Gratton said that a lot of his customers who voted Brexit wanted their meat sold in the older imperial method of pounds and ounces.

The butcher from Barnstaple, Devon, said: "The next step is to speak to North Devon Council and if they say we can go back to pounds and ounces then we will do.

"All the customers wanted it back in pounds.

Like most progressive twats, you need to be told IT"S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU YOU FUCKING MORON"

You asked for an example of chickenshit detail freakishness, and I gave it to you.

People wanted to buy their meat in pounds, and the EU told them no.

Why should a high level government like the EU give a shit about a butcher selling in pounds to customers who want to buy in pounds?

1972
The White Paper on Metrication (Cmnd. 4880) confirms that metric units should become the primary system of measurement in the UK, and says that the changeover should take place in a well-ordered and regulated manner.
The Building Regulations are re-issued in metric units to match progress in the building industry.

1973
The UK joins the European Economic Community (EEC), accepting a commitment to adopt the metric system.

1995
All imperial units cease to be primary measures, except for eleven units when these are used for specific purposes. Many familiar units, including the square foot, square yard, cubic foot, quart and gallon, though still able to be used, are no longer legally authorised.

He doesn't realise about The Sun newspaper.
Obviously not. Britains worst news source. Meanwhile I am enjoying a quiet PINT after driving 2 MILES to pick up our takeaway. I didnt need a gun to protect my freedom either.

Only idiots who take The Sun clickbait articles at face value could imagine it was not the government of the UK that decided those things.

Oh. That's you.

Is the story fake?

Oh. That's you.

So it wasn't an EU law from 1995? Please refute the story if you are going to be a snarky little cuck.

The law that applied in the UK was a UK law, you ignorant fuck. Read the link given.

1994
In July, regulations are laid before Parliament relating to metric units of measurement and their use for weights and measures and price marking purposes.
Retailers of carpets and floor coverings prepare, for the second and final time, to switch to pricing per square metre.
The last pumps at filling stations that are calibrated in gallons are converted to litres or replaced.
The Traffic Signs, Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) 1994 allow but don’t require metric measurements on signs which impose height restrictions.
BMW acquires the Rover Group, including the Mini brand. It later switches production of the Mini from Longbridge to a rebuilt plant and new production line at Cowley, Oxford.

In pubs, spirits must be served in metric quantities eg 25 mL, 35 mL.
On garage forecourts, equivalent pricing per gallon is no longer obligatory.
Regulations prescribe rational metric sizes for many pre-packed goods.
New gas and water meters show consumption in cubic metres, although some existing gas meters showing cubic feet may well survive until 2020.
Some non-SI units required by international treaties in air, sea and rail transport remain in use without time limit, for example the nautical mile, knot and foot (for altitude).
In July, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) publishes a report, “The adoption of the International System of Units as the primary system of measurement in the UK.
The British Weights and Measures Association is re-launched “to protect and promote British weights and measures, and to oppose compulsory use of the metric system”.

1999
Supermarkets, butchers, fishmongers, grocers, greengrocers and corner shops complete their preparations for the switch to weighing and pricing in metric.

And why did they have to pass the law? Because the EU said they had to.

From wikipedia:

In its initial form, the scope of directive 80/181/EEC was restricted to "economic, public health, public safety and administrative" purposes only. An outcome of the 2007 consultations was a proposal by the EU Commission to extend the scope of the directive to include "consumer protection" and "environmental issues". This was implemented by removing the phrase limiting the scope of the directive, thereby extending it to all matters that come under the ambit of the Internal Market Chapter of the EU Treaty.[78]

The directive specifically excluded units of measurement used in international treaties relating to rail traffic, aviation and shipping such as expressing aircraft altitude in feet.

The United Kingdom's legislation of 2009 that implemented these changes made no reference to the extension of the directive's scope.[7

But of course you knew this, you dishonest dime store hack-twat.

What does 2007 have to do with 1995? Have you finally found that Sun article to be a load of shit for gullible saps? Well done. Sooner or later you'll realise UK metrification started well before the seventies.

Or, probably, not.

You are correct, I haven't studied the possible consequences of a full Brexit. It seems as if the biggest risks to the UK are retaliation from the EU. So let's get some new trade agreements between the US and the UK to help offset the EU backlash.

Guess England is just too weak to stand on its own. Its days as an Empire are finished.

I agree, They should belong to the country called Europe. We just don't want them to infect us here.

Tainted Tommy won't rest until Red Jeremy is PM. A leader who can direct him in how to stop shoving food up his ass and shitting with his mouth.

Classic example of extreme backwardness.

A no deal Brexit has a high potential to be catastrophic, the British people didn't vote for that and they don't deserve it because politicians make mess of things. Hell. His own party was squeamish about it. It's egotistical insane to gamble with the lives and well being of 66 million people like that.

High Potential is just guessing on how it would affect things. The people voted for Brexit, and BJ is even saying if the opposition thinks they can beat him then let him call for elections.

What Labour needs to do is dump Corbyn right after elections are called for and they would be a shoo-in, and could call for another referendum.
I think it is more predictive then just guessing.
