Hypothetically in that situation I believe the story would be the dire situation the Democratic Party is in to field a legitimate contender. At the start of the primaries the Republicans had no shortage of young leaders and the comparison to what the Democrats had waiting in the wings was astounding. If Hillary was down in the polls as proposed I think the Democrats would be hysterical over the situation in their own back yard and anything they had to say about the GOP would seem desperate.

one of the big points of hindsight will be how much better a chance the GOP would have had with a Bush/Kasich ticket.
