Florida bound for a couple months of winter to visit with my parents and older sister....we'd stay longer but the hubby and I both have some medical appoints with specialists that took 8 months to get so we don't want to reschedule!

The hubby and I both hate, hate hate hate hate hate to fly....and I have been on airplanes flying since a baby, with dad being transferred all the time! And it was easier, when he was in the plane when a kid....I was scared, but felt comfort of sorts with him being there....I

But since the hubby and I both get scared and much closer to God every trip with our prayers to make it safely, we seem to build on each others fears....

my parents are still doing pretty good ...dad will be 92 next year and mom is either 89 or 90 next year....I can't remember.... Dad still drives, they still live alone in own home, my sister lives around the corner from them and cooks for them dinner, a few times a week! They like to eat out a lot now too....if they have a doctor's appointment in the nearby city, they always dine out while there there....

they just might make it to 100! Their 70th wedding anniversary is next year also! They still are pretty active....mom still cleans her own home, still irons her clothes, still wants to look young and dress with the latest fashions, make up before going out in public, it's absolutely amazing that my older sis and I are her children....since we are perfectly comfortable in sweats and a tee, or flannel for me and jeans here ....and not as prim and proper and caring about attire, as she cares....even at almost 90 for goodness sake! She still has her normal gate, dad has begun to walk like Biden, so he is starting to stiffen up I suppose....?

I'm so fortunate to still have both parents! My hubby lost both of his parents ages and ages ago.

If y'all don't see me posting, the Plane went down, and Matt and I have already united with our two beloved kitties, at Rainbow Bridge!

Give Ron DeSantis and hug and kiss for us.

That is really why your are going, isn't it.

A couple of months, must be nice.

Do you both work?
I haven t worked for about 20 years, Matt 's employer went bankrupt during covid so he was laid off, and shortly after that he tore his rotator cuff and bicep and it took 8 months in pain during covid to diagnose and get surgery in a hospital, then months of rehab every day, and just as he healed from that, we found out he had prostate cancer and then he went through months of radiation and we just decided to sit it out till he turned 62 this year and started collecting social security....

It's been a hellish 3 years, but now it's official, Matt and I are retired!!!

the decades I lived in Florida before moving up north, it was a Democratic leaning state for the most part...

my parents and sister have been there over 40 straight years, and first lived in the Fla panhandle for a period 60 years ago.

Good to see them still active. My Mom and sister live in the stinking Villages in Florida. My Mom is 92 and still drives.

I don’t mind flying, it is just that it is so cumbersome with checkpoints and delays. Driving down is not so bad.

I live ten minutes from the far-western part of the panhandle and that area is still as Conservative as it was back in the day. Of course, back in the 60s, one could be quite Conservative on social issues and vote Democrat. In the last election DeSantis won a couple of long time Democrat counties in southern Florida. That shocked me.
Hope you both enjoy your time down south where most things move at or near "Island speed" ;)

I love your story telling. But first things first.

I am a pilot. Sure you may say this is okay for me...

But let's start to work on fear.

You are willing to fly to do what? To improve your health. If you really figured it would result in dying in flight, why take the chance?

So let's work on fear first.
It has to be air that worries you. Thinking you can't see it, so it won't support the airplane.
But the way they fly is that they conquer all by speed. They simply do not lift off until reaching a flying speed. Once the speed is up, they can't come down unless the pilot directs it to come down.

Airplanes also have a glide rate. If the engines simply stop, which is too rare to discuss, the plane will slowly descend to the nearest safe to land at airport.
Your health is far too important to allow fear to rule you.

But wait there is more. See Birds flying. Few stop to think about they too must move around up in the air. We do not notice birds simply crashing. In fact, with billions of birds flying, where are the dead birds at? Seldom do you run across even a dead bird.

I will advise non pilots to try this to fix their fear.

Go to a local airport and go up with a flight instructor. Tell him or her you want to learn how to end your fear. They can do it safely.

He actually grew up in the same town my parents moved to live 40 years ago....they changed coasts a few years after that....lovely area!

Just remember, this state is one of the best places to live, which is why you are coming here. Dont bring your Democrat crap with you and vote to make it like Californication or any other shithole state. It is fine just the way it is.

When Democrats wake up, as I personally did, they will vote for Republican non stop. Once we former democrats reformed, we would never go back.
