Is the GOP intentionally preventing a recovery?

Where's Obama this weekend?
Is he tightening the belt and "sucking it up" like he's asking us to do?
I figure one of you Liberals with your nose buried up his ass knows his location.

Some people are saying no, see the 'argument' against, here:

Schumer's conspiracy theory: GOP sabotaging recovery | David Freddoso | Beltway Confidential | Washington Examiner

The evidence suggests Schumer's on to something. The House of Representatives has offered no debate on the issue of unemployment and has passed only 18 bills since taking control in January. 15 of those bills were passed to name federal buildings after someone. This do-nothing congress sees no urgency as millions of Americans are out of work, work one or two or three part time jobs simply to pay rent or the morgage on a home underwater.

The GOP leadership in both houses of congress has opposed all efforts by the president, and even turned down an offer by President Obama to reduce the payroll tax for businees. It seems ideology is only an excuse, the real reason is their lust for power.

Of course they are.

The GOP hates Obama. They hate liberals. In fact, they hate America. They hate the middle class and poor people. Heck, they hate the moderately wealthy. They also hate blacks, wimmin, Hispanics, the environment, clean air and water, anything not made out of chemicals or consumes more than 10 mpg, science, organic food, every Muslim on the planet and Santa Claus. They exist only to make the extreme rich extremely richer. So they are deliberately trying to sabotage the country so they can seize power and sell the middle class and poor into slavery to corporations and move them all to China.

I'm certain he's jetting around the globe on the most lavish of all corporate jets, Air Force One.

oh you mean like you are?......

Liberals are extremely open-minded as long as you believe everything they believe.

They don't really want to cut government spending Carb. They want to cut government spending that helps the poor out of their predictments. They gleefully ask for public investments when it makes a private concern outstandingly wealthy. In other words..socialism for the rich..corporatism for everyone else.

Of course they don't realize that cutting education for their fellow Americans dooms this nation into become a third world backwater with a big army.

And we all know how long that lasts..

Oh, exactly. As I've said for a long time, conservatives don't want less government, they just want less of the other guy's government.

Of course you get a few outliers like Ron Paul who'll talk up significant defense cuts, but guys like him don't get the GOP presidential nominations, and the truth is, conservatives like him are quietly despised by the conservative Republican establishment.

Well, I should say, not always so quietly despised if anyone recalls how Ron Paul was treated by establishment conservatives back in 2008 and prior,

when the prowar militarist conservatives didn't hold back.

Your perception of conservatism is astoundingly goofy.

If you can show any evidence that the mainstream conservative Republican consensus supports meaningful real cuts in defense spending,

by all means do so. Otherwise admit that I'm right.

If cutting government spending will create jobs, let's cut a few hundred billion out of defense,

and after we see the layoffs in the PRIVATE SECTOR of the defense industry, let's see where the jobs magically materialize somewhere else to make up those job losses and then some.

That's really going to happen? Are you sure?

There is no fast and easy fix for the corener we have eagerly worked ourselves into.
We are into a downward spiral.

The Right keeps trying to sell this fantasy that big cuts in government spending will cause some sort of boom in jobs creation.

That's not how austerity works. If austerity worked that way, BOTH parties would be cutting spending like mad.

The grim reality is that austerity would cost thousands, perhaps millions of jobs. Anyone who says otherwise is either naive, ignorant, or lying.

Yeah - they parrot that talking point as if it's an article of faith, but I would like to see someone draw a line between big cuts and increased employment...map out how that exactly works.

Oh yes, and Clinton left Bush a surplus and FDR brought us out of the Great Depression and ATM machines are killing jobs and there are 58 states and Obama has a 13 yo daughter and Clinton did not have sexual relations with that woman and asthmatics need breathalysers.

If you have evidence that an austerity program involving massive cuts in government spending will CREATE jobs, by all means post it.

When you start canceling or not creating new government contracts to private business because of cutting government spending, and those business start laying people off,

show us where those people will get new jobs. Show us where not only those people, but the other people who would have to get jobs to produce net positive job creation, show us where and how that happens.

And be specific.

They can't run on the truth because the truth is politically suicidal.

The defense industry, for example, has its tentacles in every state, practically every Congressional district in the country. You start talking about defense cuts and every Congressman with a defense related business in his or her district, or a military base, or anything living off defense spending,

promptly shits his or her pants.

I'm still looking for proof that Obama's increased spending led to higher employment.....

It would almost work if we were already at a balanced budget, and were cutting spending that was being paid for with taxes and then there were accompanying tax cuts.

Problem is, we've already had the tax cuts, they're already built into the economy and have been for the last ten years or more.

All we're doing now when we cut is cutting spending we haven't been paying for in the first place. Cutting spending now is the equivalent of upping your monthly payment on your massive VISA bill...

...it doesn't make you richer, it makes you poorer. What made you 'richer' is all in that balance you ran up over the years, and all those clothes and gadgets and nights out on the town you bought,

they're all history.

Yes I've heard that.

Watch Jarecki's 'Why We Fight' sometime if you haven't already. I think that's the guy's name.

When the left is removed from the senate something will get done until like Obama said "its not a conversation worth having"

and this left wing rag is the "leader of the free world":lol::lol:

You seem to think that Democrats want high employment.

That is incorrect. Democrats, who have been overrun with big government statists, want as many people as possible dependent on government, trading votes for handouts.

They are by no means synonymous.
