Our school specialises in basketball, the girls' team beats every other school in the area, easily and every time.
We also run two different martial arts classes and engage in several other sports, including footsal (A sort of mini soccer game).
I have visited many Muslim schools in Indonesia and have yet to find one that doesn't have sporting activities for ALL students.

My wife's little sister will enter a Muslim boarding school from the start of next term.
It's an all girls school but you often see them road racing in the area. Sports are considered an absolute must for every kid.

The cleric mentioned by the OP would be very unwelcome here and, if he spouted that shit in an Indonesian school, he'd get a 'fuck off' tablet.
