Exactly. The 1934 Act was designed to cut the use of some weapons in gun crime which law enforcement deemed necessary. It didn’t necessarily cut the number of gun crimes. But the carnage inflicted by machine guns in general and now AR15 platform rifles irrefutable in the hands of even many unskilled, untrained and unqualified persons.

The police response to the Thompson sub machine gun was to use it themselves……as have police responded now with the AR15 platforms. That’s not the best environment for the innocent public environment. And when the public becomes the target, the carnage is even more horrendous.

We highly regulate types of weapons because of the amount of carnage they can generate in use. That was the intent of part of the 1934 NFA. The assault weapons sold today even in semi auto mode, are a threat equal to and greater then Thompson sub machine gun when you consider less recoil, greater velocity, light weight, availability and much higher fire rate rds per minute with less recoil then other rifles.
