The Nobel Prize committee said the reason they awarded Lessing the Nobel Prize in 2007 because she could be described as "that epicist of the female experience, who with scepticism, fire and visionary power has subjected a divided civilisation to scrutiny." Lessing is most known for her experimental novel The Golden Notebook, but she wrote around fifty books in her lifetime.
