The old way worked OK. Democrats are always saying something is "broken" and the feds have to step in and revamp the whole system even though history says the govt can't do anything right. Medicare and Medicaid has shown us that when the govt takes on health care, massive fraud is always the result.

Capital idea!! If anything in the world tells us how inept government solutions are, it should be the Obamacare debacle. There is not one single government agency or department that is run with any amount of subject knowledge, thought, preparation or anything else.

There are many reasons that make insurance costs high, none of which can be fixed by knuckleheaded fiat. It think it was Shakespeare who wrote that the first thing we should do is kill the attorneys ... or something to that effect. In the case of healthcare, attorneys are one of the biggest reasons for high insurance costs. ONE PERSON is harmed or dies from a particular drug, surgical procedure, or whatever and the result it mass nationwide ads screaming for anyone who has suffered ... should call this, that or the other law firm to get redress for their loss.

Result: years of research, litigation, filing fees and other court costs, attorney fees and costs, paperwork, etc., etc., etc. Right off the top of any awards that might be given the IRS gets its due, the attorneys get their due, and whatever amount is left is divided by the plaintiffs ... all 75,278,984 of them. Malpractice insurance goes up for all the hospitals, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, companies that manufacture a particular product, and attorney costs for all the defendants involved, etc., etc., etc. We need to put a reasonable cap on damages that can be recovered ... and rein in attorneys in general. It's a pipe dream of course since the majority of our local and federal lawmakers are attorneys themselves.

People who don't use medical insurance coverage wisely and make claim after claim after claim also run up the costs. Claims experience plays a big part in the costs of medical insurance. In other words, if a bandaid or aspirin will take of the problem ... don't go to the doctor's office or the frigging emergency room and then file a claim!!!

As with everything else, the government is very slow to pay for medical services paid through Medicare and Medicaid ... which is an incentive for doctors, hospitals, etc. to not want to be involved with these agencies - their daily costs have to be met whether these agencies pay or time or not. The list goes on and on. All of which contribute to the high costs of medical care. It's not just the big bad insurance companies.

And don't forget another huge cause of rising health care costs - the fact that idiot america forces hospital ERs to give free health care to the 40 million illegals in america!!!! Yes - people that aren't even allowed to be here get their health care paid by tay-paying citizens!! Health care costs around $4000 a year per person so that is $160 billion every year.

Everyone should receive EMERGENCY medical care whether or not they can afford it. I'm talking about labor and childbirth, heart attacks, stroke, severe asthesma attacks, gunshot or other serious wounds and similar situations - EMERGENCIES.

What is driving emergency room costs through the roof is the use of the ER as a primary care physician. People (generally those on Medicaid and some Medicare recipients) go to the ER for a hangnail when a Bandaid would do. AND they do this several times a week or month - it's not coming out of their pockets - it's "free!" It's a way of life.

What COULD be done to stem the tide is to INFORM welfare or other entitlement recipients right up front what situations WILL NOT BE TREATED in emergency rooms along with a written copy of the information in preschool terms if necessary. They should be given a list of the local "Doc in a Box" clinics and/or physicians who can/will treat minor problems.

Same applies to food stamps (now in credit card form) and other government funded food programs. Go back a few decades and reapply some of the restrictions - no sodas, candy, cookies, chips, precooked (I like the term "prefab") foods and things of that nature. Might help alleviate some of the obesity issues everyone is so up in the air about these days. That's not to say the kids and/or their parents should not be allowed to have any of the restricted foodstuffs ... they would just have to pay for it out of pocket. Food stamps should be used to purchase good, nutritious food like meats, vegetables, and fruit.

But doing something like this would be too easy, too sensible or logical to fit into the mold of government rules and regulations that take reams of paper and more employees than necessary to process.

.

It's not the medicaid people. It's the damn illegals. And BTW, childbirth is not an emergency. It's a voluntary condition. THINK.
