The fact of the matter is, that 80% of patents in medicine now come from private industry, not from bureautratic institutions or academia's research centers where back in the day, almost everything in medicine found its genesis. People in private industry don't get to make lame excuses like "It was my tight budget that caused me to be an escapist, excuse-making dolt." Do that, and you get your ass fired, and someone who can handle the job replaces you.
