Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, has attacked tax collectors in the U.S. after revealing he has an unpaid bill which could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

An incredulous Johnson revealed on live radio that he faces an 'outrageous' charge from the IRS on profits made from selling his home - because he holds dual U.S. citizenship.

The British politician, who beats Prime Minister David Cameron in opinion polls and has been touted as a potential successor, was born in New York City and lived in the United States until he was five.

As such, he said in an NPR interview designed to promote his new book, he is subject to Uncle Sam's 'global taxation' policy.

One example he highlighted was for profits made selling his first home in London, which is exempt from tax in the UK, but the U.S. still takes a cut of.

He did not disclose the amount, but according to Britain's Daily Telegraph, he made around $1.14million from the sale.

The relevant tax for 2009 sales was 15 per cent, which would give him a total bill of $171,000.

This news is hilarious! Seriously, our government doesn’t miss a chance to earn some money, even if it has no connection to it. I mean, it’s London mayor! Can you imagine Schwarzenegger paying taxes to Austria for selling property in US? No way, right? Quite a reality for Mr. Johnson though.
