The big problem with this is cops don't have personal liability in these cases. The taxpayers foot the bill.

He flipped off a trooper and got charged. Now Vermont is on the hook for $175,000

ST. ALBANS, Vt. (AP) — Vermont has agreed to pay $175,000 to settle a lawsuit on behalf of a man who was charged with a crime for giving a state trooper the middle finger in 2018, the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union said Wednesday.

The lawsuit was filed in 2021 by the ACLU of Vermont on behalf of Gregory Bombard, of St. Albans. It says Bombard's First Amendment rights were violated after an unnecessary traffic stop and retaliatory arrest in 2018.

i don't see any bruises and he is walking under his own power. could have been worse.

Every right has its consequences.... free speech does not mean its okay to antagonize others... especially a cop doing his job... that can be called interfering with a cops duties....
flipping a cop off in passing is not antagonizing,,

now if he got right in his face and wouldnt let him do his job is another thing,,

what do you think about the cop lying and upping it to false charges of speeding when he did it a second time??

interfering in his duties would require him to physically get in the cops way,,

The fact that the cop had to stop what he was doing and confront the jackass is enough for me....

just because the cops feelings were hurt doesnt make it right,,'

in fact that alone proves the cop isnt mentally stable enough to be a cop,,

only nazi fucks police feelings,,

so nothing about the false charges to cop charged him with,,
why is that??

First of all its Vermont and the northeast sector of the ACLU... if the Dept. were to appeal I'm sure they would eventually prevail...

The State of Vermont "settled" this lawsuit . In other words, they paid off a liberal pos with taxpayers money.

Just a scam.

Just like another lib jurisdiction did with the CP5 and the George Floyd family. And countless other lib agitators.
