Mark Sanford wins Republican runoff in South Carolina

HAHA!!! Yes, I forgot all about that guy!!!

Well, see my last post, the "long death" of the Republican party. Thanks to SC's near dead last education system (Thanks Republicans for decades of that), we have some really stupid people who will vote for just about anybody. See: Alvin Greene.

Outside of the Charleston and Greenville metro areas, SC is basically a bunch of yeehaw rednecks and very poor black folk. So as long as this GOP dominated state keeps up it's history of feeding the yeehaws the political red meat, and keeping the black folks uneducated through horrible public schools, they'll keep winning elections in this state for a while.

BUT, this particluar one is mostly the Lowcountry area, Charleston, which is far more center, or even center-left. I think Liz Colbert wins it.
You do realize that Alvin Greene was the DEMOCRAT candidate, don't you?.
Now why would republicans want the state population so dumbed down that they voted opposite of their party?

But then, you also make statements like this, "SC is basically a bunch of yeehaw rednecks and very poor black folk.". Your bigotry is showing when you state things like that.

Your bigotry is showing when you state things like that.

and your bringing up Alvin Greene ... isn't.

the best chance Liz Colbert has of winning is the opportunity to campaign against Sanford.
Nope, bringing up Alvin Greene isn't bigotry, it's common sense. Do some research if you don't believe me.

Speaking of SC, where is Alvin Greene?

Yes. I realize Al Green was a Democrat. So when our state's Democrats vote, and many aren't very educated and went to God-awful SC rural schools, they may do something dumb like just pick a random name under "D" and vote for it.

And that was not bigotry. I live here. I've travelled throughout this state. Outside of Greenville, Columbia, and the Charleston/coastal areas, it is in fact almost all poor black people and rednecks.

Then whats so bad about Alvin Green? He was in the Army. He is going to college. He had a couple shady interactions with the law, which all politicians seem to have.

So, exactly what is it you found so.....unique...about him?

The formally biblically married Sanford is a perfect choice for the Laughingstock that the Family Values Party has become.

yep. the party of "family values" put him up as the Repub nominee. You can't make this stuff up.

Yep.

He cheated on his lovely, loyal wife.
He lied to the taxpayers.
He spent taxpayer money to venture to South America to cheat on his wife.

BUT....he is anti-Obama, preaches lower taxes, loves God, and well, what else do you need as a GOP nominee? It doesnt hurt that he's white either.

"Yeehaw" for your experience and denigration of the people in your state.
My bad for mistaking the term "redneck" as a bigoted term.

Are you serious?
Come on man.
The previous democrat president Bill Clinton spoke of family values, and the current democrat president Barack Obama has spoken of family values.

Just pointing out false accusations.

I don't know that is says anymore about the right than it says about the left when elect or reelect politicians caught up in affairs and scandals.

LIKE WHO?

Anyway....THIS thread is about REPUBLICAN Mark Sanford and the Republicans of South Carolina that elected him.

Any thoughts on that sir?

Like who, REALLY? How about we go to just the most recent example of a fine young man who was so wrapped up in himself and his legal problems he didn't even campaign and he was still reelected. Can you say, Jesse Jackson Jr?

Tonight, in his victory speech, he thanked his Argentine fiancée, who was standing near him.

Yep. So he cheated, lied, wasted taxpayer money to do both, and then got a divorce.

I swear I thought the GOP opposed all four of those things.

Sure, they do.

I just saw a clip from an interview his wife did. Shortly after Mark's confession, on public TV, he called her to ask, "How did I do"?

:clap2: Great topic Marc. I happen to live in Charleston, SC, which is the main metro area in this particular district Sanford is running for. Charleston metro is also the ONLY county that Obama won in the whole state I believe. And it is long known as the lone blue area in a dark red state.

Elizabeth Colbert is the brother of Stephen Colbert. Stephen "Cole-bear" is beloved in Charleston. He is from here, born and raised, and returns very often. He'll obviously campaign for her hard. Joe Biden was just in town helping fund raise for her. Internal polling shows she is up 48-43.

Republicans in this state preach family values, low taxes, more guns. So, we'll see how much they support a guy who cheated on his wonderful wife, flew to South America on taxpayer money (and lied to us about it) to cheat on her, and did NOTHING about SC's horrible violent crime rate.

This would be a major coup for the Democrats to pick off a district in red state SC. This district hasn't gone to the Dems since the 70's. But, the tide is turning fast. The metro areas of Charleston and Greenville are both heavy with transplants, and the natives are far more progressive than the rural areas of the state. Columbia also to an extent. But, this district is the coastal area. Tim Scott's old seat.

Elizabeth Colbert is running a good campaign down here. I'll vote for her.
I'm so glad to know that she's up at this early in the stage. I trust and pray that she will maintain that, and grow even more in the polls unto victory.

Yeah, this will be the start model election to see how true to their beliefs and morals the Republicans, particularly the Bible-thumping RW religious ones are when it counts.

Good luck with her win dude...truly.

Anyone who defends him, or votes for him--Republican or Democrat--is an idiot.
Basically.

Oh, and dont be surprised he won the GOP bid. If any of you had been down here for the past 3 months of campaigning, you'd be sick of all of them, and not shocked at all Sanford won.

The Republican candidates were fucking d-bags. Pure red meat, no substance. "Lower taxes, more God, less gays, less abortion, more guns" was basically the them.

One idiot ran the same commercial over and over where it shows him on a front porch with an extremely prototypical looking Tea Partier saying "I just think Obama is up there running us into a socialist government; And I want you to interrupt it".

May as well have been a stream of rednecks yelling "YEEEEHAAAW!!!", then Sanford winning the vote.

I donating to Colbert. The beginning of a long death for the GOP in South Caroilna. It will be long though. Aside from the Charleston/coastal areas, SC is pretty much redneck heaven.
I've heard similar reports from multiple sources. Interesting place.

So the "Hero of The Templar Order" has spoken, so it shall be observed.

Seriously, dude, your location says Georgia, you have no vote in South Carolina, same as MarcATL. You can dislike it all you want to, but you can't control the available candidates in other states.
So we can't have an opinion about it and must shutup huh?

What NONSENSE are you talking about? This board is all about posting and commenting about things that aren't local to 99% of us. Just say that you don't like the looks of it because it doesn't look good for your side and cal it a day.

Have some standards and values about yourself.

Sheeesh!!!

Yep...that's what they say on paper. Let's see if they or how they live up to it in real life.

This race will be one of the most interesting races coming up.

2014 might turn into a real shocker for the GOP. Right now Rasmussen has Dems leading the generic congressional ballot by seven points. Because Republicans have a big advantage in the way districts are set, a seven point lead does not necessarily translate into Dems winning the majority of Congressional Districts, but Republicans should be worried.

So...do you think he'll win the election or will it go to newcomer Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch? She happens to be Stephen Colbert's older sister BTW.

I think Mark Sanford is toast.

What does it say that the Republicans gave him the nomination?

I'm kinda shocked he won the runoff.

Mark Sanford wins Republican runoff in South Carolina

So he's forgiven?

good lord, not only did that douche win the nom, he stomped his competition by 13 points

How the hell did he even get in the race? Shouldn't he have been booed every time he spoke?

jesus

well

If he won that big, he just needs to put in the same effort to get the seat back. Considering he's got home turf, the dem has to put in more work than him and clearly his douchyness will not be a factor.

I lived in Charleston for 3 years back in the late 80's , holy crap, it was like living on a different planet. bible thumping loons all over the place.
