On the places the avalanches are, there are hardly any trees. It's usually barren slopes. If it did have trees, it wouldn't be a danger for an avalanche. There is no buffer between the town of Breckenridge and the Forest. A lot of places cancelled Fireworks due to this reason. I guess you can wimp out and call it "Because of the Environment". It's a very unhealthy environment when your home is burning to the ground.

Breckenridge Cancels New Years Fireworks To Send 'Environmental Message'

The Town of Breckenridge has cancelled its New Year’s Eve fireworks this year, to send “the right environmental message.”

Haley Littleton, spokeswoman for the town of Breckenridge, told CBS4 the decision was made almost a year ago, in conjunction with canceling the Fourth of July fireworks, “to ensure consistency and that we are sending the right environmental message.”

Littleton told the Summit Daily News the decision was made, in part, to “not disturb our wildlife.”

Snow On The Way For Almost All Of Colorado

Because the storm is entering Colorado from the southwest, the San Juan Mountains will likely experience the heaviest snow in the state. A WINTER STORM WARNING starts at 11 p.m. Thursday and continues through 5 a.m. Saturday for areas such as Wolf Creek Pass, Silverton Mountain, and Purgatory. This region of the state will see at least 7 to 14 inches of snow.
