What snow doesn’t deal with, ice does.
Baseball-sized hail took out a solar farm in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on Friday. The hail shattered most of the panels on the 5.2-megawatt solar project, sparing an odd panel like missing teeth in a white smile.

Funny. No fossil fuel power sources were harmed.

One home was destroyed ... the family of 12 escaped unharmed ... I checked the NWS' forecast and it clearly calls for large hail in this immediate area on this day ... no one bothered to protect the panels? ...

Human error ...

Glad it wasn't a nuclear power plant ...

A nuclear plant could have a 747 land on it and survive….

Yep, nothing gets in the way of oil production.

It could? ... that's a lot of avgas to be burning in the emergency generators and connections to the power grid ... you can SCRAM with gravity alone, but cooling pumps need to be running ... for weeks after ...

Or do you mean any future, well designed nuclear power plant? ... because you're spot-on correct in that case ... we've always been able to build safer, it's just more expensive ...

There was softball-sized hail in Nebraska 100 years ago, there's softball-sized hail in Nebraska today, and there will be softball-sized hail 100 years from now ... one or two degrees Celsius ain't gonna change that ... no excuse not planning for this ... this was a "high-tech" set-up where the panel rotated to keep aligned with the Sun ... I'll warrant the insurance company will request a broader range of movement, twist them puppies out of the way ...

NWS gave them warning ...

And how do you imagine they would have protected them?
