In a fitting tribute to Gordon Lightfoot, the Mariners Church rang the bell 30 times.

In the last verse of his song 'Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' he wrote:
"In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral
The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald"

On Tuesday the Mariners Church rang the bell 30 times. 29 for the men lost and 1 for the man who wrote the song that immortalized them.
