Hi, I am currently working on a project. I am writing a fictional story based in the 1960's. Documentary's and textbooks do give plenty of information about the decade but they do not say much about the emotional level or people's private lives. Is there anyone out there that is willing to tell me their story or they're family member's story? If so, can you please answer these questions and send them to me either in text, audio, video or any other way so that I may continue with this creative process? The early 60's were amazing. I entered kindergarten in 1960. Religion and Church were integral parts of my early childhood. Parochial School, Mass every day of the week except Saturdays, cartoons and variety shows. Red Skelton, Jack Parr, Motwown music on the AM radio. Roaming the neighborhoods after dark without fear, 5 cent sodas at the local pharmacy. Nuclear bomb drills at school.

In 1967 the shit hit the fan when my dad died at age 54, leaving behind a 45 year old widow with seven kids aged 3-18. I was the middle child (and the only left-hander LOL). The next seven years were spent in abject poverty.

Blah blah blah, etc. Fuck yes I remember with absolute clarity.

I suggest you look up local newspapers on random dates in that period. They're always written in a reflection of contemporary attitudes, values and language. You can glean a lot from newspapers -- what was deemed important at the time, etc. Going through a list like you have in your OP would be a gargantuan task -- it amounts to writing an autobiography.

There's a series of books for writers along the lines of "Everyday Life in the 19th Century" and such. I don't know if they'd have a version for that recent a time.

I know nothing about the sixties and I want to create a fictional character

I know nothing about the beliefs/ values or thoughts that were in the 60's. All of the information I get are through textbooks and documentaries and they are quite dull and emotionless. I'm writing about a fictional character in non-fictional...historical situations. It's hard for me to put these concepts together because I'm a 90's kid. So, I'm asking for some true stories so that I could relate to those times and it will create smother ideas for my screen play.

It was a good time for growing up if you were black too, optimism as changed happened, and morbid obesity and obesity related disorders were rare, and your most lethal enemy was not your black neighbour.
