Fox News pollster Braun Research misrepresented impeachment poll: analysis

The poll released last week by Fox News that claimed most Americans favor the impeachment of President Trump underrepresented Republican and independent voters, The Post has found.

The poll said 51% of voters were in favor of Trump’s impeachment and removal from office, while 40% did not want him impeached.

Princeton, New Jersey, pollster Braun Research, which conducted the survey, noted 48% of its respondents were Democrats. But the actual breakdown of party-affiliation is 31% Democrat, 29% Republican and 38% independent, according to Gallup.

A poll weighted for party affiliation would have concluded that 44.9% favored impeachment and 44.4% opposed it, a Post analysis has concluded.

"48% of its respondemts were democrats"

Which makes it an accurate sample.

Only if you're stating that the Democrats average casting over 1.5 votes each in an election...

That was a nonsensical post. The poll did not sample only 36% republicans. Nor do those two nimbers add up to anywhere near 90%,which is still less than the percentage that votes one or the other in every election. Math is hard for some, i guess...

48% voted for hillary in 2016. 53% voted democrat in 2018. So a random sample showing 48% democrats is well within the expected range.

Got anything else?

This is exactly why polls are pretty meaningless. BTW what happened to the 9%? I was taught that 51 + 40 = 91. Did they not count 9% of the respondents?

Of course they did. Saying a certain percentage identified as affiliated doesn't mean those are the only answers they counted.

Actually, there IS a difference between a registered Democrat and an Independent that votes for a Democrat candidate...

When the polls show that 31% of American voters identify as Democrats, but the Fox News poll states that 48% of the respondents identify as Democrats, they are overrepresented by a factor of OVER 50%...

The poll is skewed...

Actually, there IS a difference between a registered Democrat and an Independent that votes for a Democrat candidate...
Neat! But the fox news poll didnt ask if they were registered with a party. They asked about affiliation. And Fox has been taking the same poll for months, with the democrat affiliation consistently higher than the republican affiliation, as one would expect. Because that reflects reality.

Same poll, same sampling methods, double digit swing in impeachment support.

None of your falsehoods or equivocations are accounting for this.

Yeah funny!! But then, what was the poll question? Seems to me it should have been a yes or no. There shouldn't be an extra 9% imo.

Shepherd Smith quit, and his pals took up for him. And that phony poll wasn't the first time they published anti-trump polls.

The truth rating should go up a lot with Shemp gone.
Well, it's easy to fall into the DNC trap. Shep fell long ago. Even so, I saw him try to get by in a very right environment, when he was very left. The last couple of times I saw him this year, he looked thoroughly miserable. I think that comes from buying the socialist farm, then contending with business as usual righties.

I don't have tv anymore. I just go to youtube and tank up on daily news that interests me, I do know some days I really don't care for the "five" when a guest leftie takes over the floor. I have a deep hatred for being lied to and having good and honorable people being dredged in false narrative like the Kavanaugh hearings.

For some reason, we're going what societies go through with when there is a huge push to establish a para-government that flourishes by eating the good out of government and replacing it with a vituperative serpent that uses obfuscation and threats to keep corruption afloat.

I have a feeling the President needs those of us who love our freedoms the most to keep supporting as best we can--including prayer lists for those already paying so much tax they have no funds other than those that pay for car upkeep, food, and replacing whatever clothing is worn out.

I have to remove thousands of dollars from my egg money to pay the annual taxes on my property. I worry all year I'll have one too many auto repairs to have tax payment when due at the end of December. We saved that money to have a decent life post retirement, but instead, they raised taxes and the demands on the county must be eye-popping to send senior citizens a tax bill of $8,000 to cover roads and schools in the county.
