Review & Outlook: The Other Targeting Scandal - WSJ.com

Senior Republicans on the House Oversight Committee recently wrote to new SEC Chairman Mary Jo White to report on disturbing events that occurred under her predecessor, and to request agency documents. As at the IRS, there's an emerging pattern at the SEC of senior officials rolling over career staff to politicize the work of a powerful federal agency.

Reps. Darrell Issa, Jim Jordan and Patrick McHenry say that documents they already have "indicate that the SEC has been under immense pressure from elected officials and special interest groups as part of a government-wide effort to stifle political speech." They further note that the pressure has largely succeeded in "moving the Commission closer to using its authority to regulate public securities markets as a backdoor way to limit the political speech of the same types of groups targeted by the IRS.
More at the source.

This is the most corrupt administration in history. And I include Baby Doc Duvalier.

Indeed. And in addition to using Federal Agencies, he uses the MSM to spin his false narratives, and union thugs to intimidate anyone who dares speak out.

Right away, without any evidence, you guys make it an Obama order.

You are one paranoid and twisted individual. Get some help.

This is not an Obama thing. This is a Democratic Party thing. The pressure put on the SEC by Barney Frank runs parallel to the crap the Democrats tried to pull with the DISCLOSE Act.

Who is responsible for what goes on in gov't?

You are. I am. Congress is. Media watchdogs are. The President is. The Supreme Court is.

Only an idiot suffers from a Single Cause Fallacy such as we see demonstrated in the first few posts of this topic.

Obama is not omnipotent. You compliment him by thinking he is.

Here is the original version of the DISCLOSE Act: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-111hr5175pcs/pdf/BILLS-111hr5175pcs.pdf

It did not pass. When the GOP came out in opposition to this bill, the Left made it sound like the GOP was all about corruption. Well, I read it, and found where the real corruption is. Take a look at pages 58 and 59.

That bill was submitted in 2010, the same time Mary Schapiro was Chairman of the SEC and supposedly being pressured to go after groups like Citizens United.

A definite parallel here, if the allegations are true.

This is a Democratic Party thing, not an Obama thing. Notice who it was who was pressuring the SEC: Congressmen.

And what was going on in 2010? Mid term elections for Congressmen. Lots of attack ads on the air.

That's where the real scandal is. Obama is the wrong target.

For those who don't understand what is on pages 58 and 59 of the 2010 Disclose Act, the Democrats were trying to narrowly define what political action groups were to be more heavily burdened with financial disclosure rules.

Pages 58 and 59 actually exempt the larger PACs. The ones that are older and more influential! Any PAC that was more than 10 years old, had more than half a million members, and at least one member in each state was to be exempt.

Like, sayyyyy, Move-On.org. Michael Moore's group. I like to call them Moore-Ons.

The newer, smaller groups that were made of just a couple/few rich donors were the ones they were targeting. Like Concerned Taxpayers of America which Rachel Maddow and Congressman DeFazio got their panties in a bunch over.
