Days before Bradley - now Chelsea - Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison for helping expose U.S. war crimes in Iraq, the Obama Department of Justice filed a petition in federal court arguing that the perpetrators of those crimes - Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al - enjoy “absolute immunity” against criminal charges or civil liability. The filing came in a suit brought by Sundus Shaker Saleh, an Iraqi single mother and refugee now living in Jordan, who alleges that the planning and waging of the Iraq war under false pretenses constituted a "crime of aggression" under a law used in the Nuremberg trials. With neither Congress nor Obama willing to hold Bush & Co. accountable for the Iraq catastrophe, supporters see the suit as a last-chance tactic to force the issue back into the public eye - an effort the Obama adminstration clearly opposes. More, all dispiriting, on the increasingly flawed Bush-Obama-lesser-of-two-evils thesis, and the current culture of impunity.

There were no war crimes in Iraq exposed by treason of Bradley manning

The moment we throw an American President in jail in this country is the moment the government falls apart.

There may have been war crimes in Iraq but I have yet to see exactly what they were. Even if there were Congress would be as responsible.

Don't worry Obama has a bigger stake in the game then does GWB. His expansion of the drone program has clearly produced war crimes and is being actively investigated, that is unless the check has already been written and the investigation dropped.

I didn't see anything in the linked article about granting a pardon.

However, if Obama did grant a pardon, it could be a good thing. As I understand, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court gives the International Criminal Court jurisdiction when the accused's country refuses to act. That means Bush, Cheney, et. al. could be prosecuted internationally for the war crimes.

pardoned for what?

Barack Obama can go to hell!

If there are any mods passing through, you can merge this thread with the one titled,
"You gotta be shitting me!", because this is what that one was about.

I'm still pissed off about it.

BTW, it was statements like this that cost the democrats control of the House in 2010.

A pardon for what convicted offense? The bastards have never even been charged (here at home).

What Obama has done is declare them immune -- not only from punishment but from formal accusation. This is analogous to the Divine Right of Kings and flies in the face of the most basic principles of our democratic system, brazenly ignoring the Rule of Law.

The totally controlled mainstream media hasn't mentioned it and Obama would not do this were he not fully confident that the American People will quietly tolerate if not totally ignore it.

You're right. However, the World Court at The Hague has already indicted Bush in absentia and will arrest him if they can get their hands on him, which they never will.

Our most current governments have transformed America into a widely feared and despised nation of bullying criminals. As such our days are numbered.

So much for Obama being a liberal like the right wing insists he is.

The whole Iraq invasion was a war crime.

no, it was not. It had a bipartisan blessing from the Congress and a "do it" from the UN.

It was not a right decision ( which was not known at a time) but not a crime.

False on the UN, and that is why it was a crime: the bushies violated international law.

Vox, that is why they can't travel to most parts of Europe. They will be arrested, incarcerated, and tried.

are the low information libtard voters all these stupid?

these pardons have nothing to do with partisanship - it is pure corporate rule of self-preservation

Then you should do your very best to get those involved charged....

And from your posts here you seem to be for the most part an decent person.
So I'm sure you will include Democrats as well when you level your charges.

You need to look at this from a perspective of the gun situation in America.
Eg.
We the wealthy want to remove guns from Americans, put them in GULAG's, then sexually abuse the hole lot of them for the rest of eternity, but the wealthy are not in a position to do it yet, thus it aint happening for now.

The non-American filth of the earth want to disarm the American Military, forcibly remove American political clout and money (making us poor), then punish Americans as a whole by putting us all on bicycles for the rest of eternity, but the filthy non-Americans of the earth are not in a position to do it yet, thus it aint happening for now.
