Oceans of Water Locked 400 Miles Inside Earth

The Earth's mantle is the hot, rocky layer between the planet's core and crust. Scientists have long suspected that the mantle's so-called transition zone, which sits between the upper and lower mantle layers 255 to 410 miles (410 to 660 kilometers) below Earth's surface, could contain water trapped in rare minerals. However, direct evidence for this water has been lacking, until now.

Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

Genesis 7:12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

Gee Chuck, God must have used a mighty big hammer to crack open the earth enough to release water trapped in rock 400 miles deep.

Either that or the water discovered trapped in rock 400 miles deep has absolutely nothing whatever to do with the story of Noah.

Do you realize how deep 400 miles is???

At some point in history there was only one or two people holding on to the belief that the world was flat because the church told them so and because they also believed they would receive presents from God when they finally arrived in la la land for keeping the faith until they died.

You don't have to be that guy......

So we can frack, but God is incapable? If God can create an ocean, He can direct it.

Job is the oldest work we have. He knew the earth was round.
In the Bible, you'll find circular, circumference, and orb. It has always taken the secular world a while to catch on. We just found out there are more than 4 dimensions! Like the one Christ was able to move in and out of. Aren't we clever?

There's just no reason to believe any of the gods created an ocean.

The Greek philosopher and mathematician Eratosthenes measured the circumference of the planet long before the writers of the bibles copied the data.

BTW, the Greeks were not secular. As a culture, they had many gods.

How do you know that jeebus moved in and out of multiple dimensions? And, does jeebus know that you and others speak with self-imposed authority on his behalf?

Your nutz.

The deepest hole ever bored was about 40,000 feet deep where it stopped because at that depth the drills melted from the intense heat and pressure.

We are talking about 400 miles deep..

Did you read the article?

"It's no longer liquid water that we're talking about at these great depths. The weight of hundreds of kilometers of rock and very high temperatures above 1,000 degrees Celsius (1,832 Fahrenheit) break down water into its components. And it's not accessible. It's not a resource in any way," Jacobsen added.

and the broken down elements of water are trapped in crystals and minerals.

Jesus popped in and out of dimensions?

Again, You are nutz.

Did you ever consider that the tales of Jesus being seen after the crucifixion were descriptions of what they saw in dreams?

People do not pop in and out of this reality and do not dematerialize at will, and the water discovered trapped in minerals has nothing whatever to do with the story of Noah.

Damn...

I love good sci-fi. Jesus popping in and out of dimensions is a good start. That 400 mile deep water stretches even suspension-of-disbelief to the breaking point though. Imagine the tectonic forces that would have to be unleashed to get that water to the surface. A flood would be the least of Noah's (and the Earth's) problems.

God's drill wasn't made in China......
Yes, Jesus popped in and out at will.
And no, not when eye witnesses wrote down every detail of what they saw and was supported by what other people saw. And then handed their official report to the witnesses themselves to approve, and to the court.

Where do you think the water that covers most of the globe came from? Outer space? Did it evolve? :eusa_angel:

Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

Genesis 7:12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

That is not water but instead it is a mineral called Ringwoodite.

Ringwoodite is a rare type of mineral that forms from olivine under very high pressures and temperatures, such as those present in the mantle's transition zone. Laboratory studies have shown that the mineral can contain water, which isn't present as liquid, ice or vapor; instead, it is trapped in the ringwoodite's molecular structure as hydroxide ions (bonded oxygen and hydrogen atoms).

Finding oxygen and hydrogen atoms trapped within the mantle is not evidence of Noah's flood. For this mineral to have been exposed to the surface and transformed into water would have meant earthquakes capable of reaching 250+ miles below the surface. The tectonic plates themselves are only between 10 and 120 miles thick. For this to have happened world wide there would have been massive earthquakes the like of which have probable never been since the world formed about 4+ billion years ago.

Then you have the problem of reabsorbing all of the flood water back under the mantle. The temperature and pressure at that depth would have turned the water to steam which expands as a gas and escapes back into the atmosphere.

In essence your Noah scenario defies all of the laws of physics and chemistry both coming and going.

The people who wrote scripture believed that dreams are the medium through which God communicates with man and when a prophet received a word from God it was not always stated that what they saw and heard was in a dream.

In Ezekiel it says that an angel appeared to him in Babylon, carried him by the hair through the air to Jerusalem where he proceeded to dig through the temple wall with his bare hands which was 13 feet thick of solid rock in broad daylight and watched what was going on inside and no one else noticed.

These things, like the Abraham having lunch with angels, or the transfiguration before the crucifixion and Jesus appearing and disappearing into thin air after the crucifixion can only have happened in a dream. They didn't bother to mention it because the people to whom the stories were written were intelligent enough to know this.

If Jesus appeared to his disciples in dreams and spoke to them after he died they would have concluded that Jesus survived death and was in the realm of God.

The oceans had already been in existence for hundreds of millions of years before Noah was even born...

I believe the aftermath of the meteor or asteroid impact crater on the bottom of the Indian ocean was responsible for the hundreds of flood myths from almost every culture all over the world. It dates to the approximate time of the story of Gilgamesh and would have instantly vaporized billions of metric tons of water into the atmosphere causing a cataclysm of mega tsunamis and a world wide deluge of super storms and torrential rain that would have wiped out every coastal civilization, and every city and town situated near streams and rivers would have been swept clean away by flooding.

Any survivors would have had their minds blown and would have thought there was an angry God up there somewhere who was pissed off at all of the people who died and that they were somehow favored because they lived.

That's not question or the issue.

The oceans had already been in existence and covered the surface of the earth for hundreds of millions of years before Noah was even born...

Except that per the biblical account of the flood the waters rose to cover the mountain tops. Since Everest is 29,000' above sea level that would mean covering the entire surface of the planet with an additional 5.5 miles of water. Every single flooding event leaves behind a sediment trace. If the Noah flood had occurred on this magnitude then there would be a massive sediment trace found all across the entire world. No such sediment trace exists.

You are presuming that the God who caused the flood could not return the Earth to some sort of pre-flood state.

If your God was capable of doing that then why bother with a flood in the first place if all he wanted to do was to rid the world of the "wickedness of mankind"? A plague would have been just as effective. Or he could have used the Soddom and Gomorrah method. Seems like overkill to wipe out all of the plants and animals on the surface. And don't forget that babies, children and pregnant women also drowned in that flood. Were they also guilty of "wickedness"?

We already know the Noah story was borrowed from older sources. Whats so hard to believe about them using hyperbole to make a point?
