Actually, you're entirely wrong. It's not their only option. But it's the foolish strategy Pelosi has always pushed, which is exactly why she loses so god damned always.

If the Democrats were smart, they'd focus on the opposite allegation: If you vote for us, things will be even better. That's the only message that has ever yielded any meaningful success for Democrats. That's how Bill Clinton did it, that's how Obama did it. But every time the Democrats resort to "Oh my god, they other side is so bad!" they lose. Gore lost, Kerry lost, Hillary lost, and Pelosi loses over and over again. Demonizing the opposition is the Republicans' game. We're good at it, but the Democrats suck at it. Democrats always want to beat us at our own game, but they keep losing.
