How ironic. Did you vote for the charlatan from Kenya?People think Trump is an anomaly because he doesn't hold 100% conservative principles, nor does he have much policy knowledge, preferring instead to engage in shallow tough talk .
His anti-illegal-alien ranting is designed to appeal to the crude nativism of a republican base that has no idea how much profit margins in sectors across places like California depend on the ultra low labor costs of illegal aliens. This is partly why Reagan passed the largest amnesty bill in history, so he could flood union controlled labor markets with cheap labor.
But republican voters tend not to understand that Trump is merely manipulating their uneducated sentiments.
Trump is also appealing to the strategically created anti-government feelings of the Republican base. This strategy is old, and it's based on the marketing of yourself as a straight-talking "outsider". This is the lifeblood of talk radio, which conditions the republican voter to hate the establishment. Goldwater started it, Reagan perfected it and Republicans always fall for it.
(Why do Republicans always buy into this clearly manufactured straight talking "outsider" image? When will they learn to question their politicians? When will they realize that they are being played?)
