I'm fully aware that Obama is not making bold statement against government interference in the economy. He's merely scoring political points by threatening to penalize the oil companies because they made too much money. And he'd never actually go through with it. He wouldn't have proposed it if he thought Congress might have passed it.

But... getting rid of these kinds of corrupt policies, across the board, is exactly what we need to be doing if we are going to save our country. We gotta wake up.

They are not subsidies, they are tax breaks. The government is allowing them TO KEEP MORE OF THE MONEY THEY EARN. A subsidy is simply free money.

The oil companies get the same tax breaks that every other company gets.
