Yep, all utilities are more expensive. And, you can add food, rent, and health care to the list as well. The cost of living continues to rise, and pay checks can't keep pace. But, we are paying less for gasoline, which is a huge blessing.

In spite of Obama. If cap and trade were ever fully implemented the "Middle class" would be no more.

Agree with everything except for the fuel "blessing." The price of fuel has been forced down by OPEC to keep America from drilling offshore or building the Keystone Pipeline. We need to become less dependent on OPEC and we need to put Americans to work in good paying jobs. So ... it's a "blessing" in some respects but in the long run ... Americans are getting screwed when we look at the bigger picture.

Every day that the price of living goes up and our paychecks do not we take a cut in pay. Our buying power is reduced and we're one step closer to the poverty line. Under the current conditions and circumstances we can almost kiss the American Dream goodbye. America is rapidly becoming just one more region of the New World Order. As her sovereignty erodes the power of the United Nations gets more vibrant and intrusive.

It doesn't require $4.00 per gallon gas in order for big oil to make a profit and employ people. Back when gas was selling for over $4.00 a gallon, big oil was making $13Billion per quarter in profit. So, you're saying that if they're only making $7Billion per quarter in profit, jobs will be lost, businesses will go under, and the economy will collapse? FYI - It cost big oil the same to get the oil out of the ground whether they sell it for $115 per barrel or $50 per barrel. When the price of oil is extremely high, do they give the consumers a break? The answer is NO. Back when gasoline was over $5.00 a gallon in some states, top oil company execs were called to testify before members of Congress to explain the high cost to consumers. One exec, I believe it was a lady representing Exxon, said that their responsibility was to make as much money as possible for the stock holders, and not how cheap they could sell gas to the consumer.

Don't kid yourself, big oil is making tons of money. If people lose their jobs, it's because GREED is king.

If by "big oil" you're talking about the companies that are in bed with Mideast oil interests (and nations) then I would agree. The closer America becomes to oil "independence" the more aggressively certain "big oil" companies to go to reduce the price of THEIR oil. Shell (and other major companies) is/are totally in bed with Saudi Arabia and other Mideast interests. It was because "big oil" prices were so high that America's domestic businessmen are attempting to tap into our own resources. Don't you want to divorce America from the Mideast?

My response was addressed to the comment concerning whether lower gasoline prices were a blessing or not. In my opinion, yes, they are a blessing to consumers. In my opinion, no, it does not mean that big oil is going to go bankrupt. Yes, I would very much like to see America as an independent energy producer.

The federal government makes more money off oil than the oil companies. You know that right? The small percentage of profit oil companies make has no real effect on the gas prices we pay and they provides lots of jobs. would you like energy production nationalized? We can be another Valenzuela? Obama is putting coal fired power plants out of business which mainly hurts poor people and small business driving up the prices we have to pay. Coal production is under attack from these liberal nutjobs..We'll all suffer for it

Well, it seems Mr. Obama plan is going according to schedule. He DID say that under his plan the "cost of energy would necessarily skyrocket". That's one of the few things he wasn't lying about.

Bullshit government doesn't subsidize anything. Where do you come up with this stuff? they may give some tax breaks to smaller but they make more % of profit off a gallon of gas than oil companies.Get it? Total numbers don't really mean shit, and that money has very little effect on a gallon of gas

In total, Exxon makes about 8 cents on the dollar for everything it does, soup to nuts: Its profit margin for the past 20 quarters averages 8.26 percent. That is, it is worth noting, a good deal lower profit margin than Wired parent company Conde Nast generally achieves, according to the company’s CEO, Charles Townsend. Apple’s profit margin runs about three times Exxon’s. Chip-maker Linear Technology’s profit margins routinely run four times those of Exxon. Energy is a high-volume business, not a high-profit-margin business. But regardless of the size of the margin, how much revenue goes where tells you nothing about profit.

Actually, it is much more complicated than that.

Fluctuations in supply and/or demand is what kills the jobs....not greed.

It is like that in all industries...and why we have recessions every 4 years or so.

When the market is rich, the companies invest in new technology as well as additional employees. When demand decreases (or supply increases), the technology must stay for it is paid for, but the additional employees are let go. Then, while in a recession, companies have the opportunity to apply their new technology in the most efficient way possible...and when demand increases again, they realize the new technology can cover the new demand...so no need to hire additional emploiyees..

Call it greed if you wish.....but if during hard times, you fired your gardener and bought a lawnmower...and while using it, you realized it was simple job and not worth the money to rehire the gardener....wouldnt you not rehire the gardener when times were good again?

Is it because you are greedy....or just wiser?
