"Over the last few days, President Joe Biden has indicated he’s willing to “target” $1,400 stimulus checks to Americans most in need in an effort to find bipartisan ground with Republican lawmakers. According to multiple reports, plans are being drawn up to phase out direct payments at $50,000 per year -- that would mean $1,400 checks for anyone making less than $50,000 and $2,800 for married couples earning $100,000 or less. If an individual was considered the head of house and earning up to $75,000, he or she would also qualify."

So for all of this talk of Biden being a radical socialist progressive dictator; he keeps showing everyone that he is what he has always been; a centrist establishment corporate Democrat who is still trying to push austerity cuts on the middle and working class while doing no such thing to the wealth class.....Progressives in this country have a right to be furious if Biden caves on this for the sake of "bipartisanship" -- because if he does, that would mean Trump's stimulus checks were more progressive than Biden's.

As one progressive strategist said "I find it obscene that a Congress full of millionaires (funded by billionaires) is trying to means test the difference between $50,000 and $75,000 for a life-saving survival check during a pandemic. We need more working people in our government."

I find it interesting that the biggest complaint is about TRUMP!'s image.

I have no problem with this idea, what so ever. An individual making 50K+ or couple making 100K+ during the pandemic year are not in need of economic stimulation. If they are not making their way in the world at that level, the problem is not economic. It is a money management problem.

I think it was Northwestern University that looked at the effects of stimulus in real time and found that people with less than $500 in savings started spending it immediately on things like rent, food and bills while people with more than $3K in savings just threw the money into their savings accounts and sat on it. I guess it depends on how much stimulating the economy is important to you as to what you think about the cutoffs.

This threshold is LOWER than it was for the first stimulus....

In no way should Democrats be advocating for something that is MORE CONSERVATIVE than the bill they passed last year....

Especially when one of the factors in an economic stimulus is the FACT that over 95% of that money will go back into the economy...

And ESPECIALLY after the fact that republicans used Reconciliation to pass a 2+ Trillion dollar tax cut for NO REASON other than to line the pockets of those who didn't need it....were you telling those folks they had money management problems? You damn sure don't need to get on a fucking soap box to be lecturing middle class folks about money management problems...FOH

If you are making what you always make, why do you need a stimulus anyways?

The economy wasn't doing what it was always doing....so the fact that some middle class people get extra money to put back into the economy isn't a problem......

Especially when we see how many major corps aren't held to that same standard when they have their hands out for taxpayer money

Tax cut to the rich was indeed stupid. Do you favor taking it back or just doing something equally stupid for the non rich? I am not addressing the need for economic stimulation. Would probably be a good thing. If selling it to the country, saying people are hurting, it is better it were addressed to target those that are hurting and people making 50K are not hurting unless trying to live a 100K lifestyle.

Also.....if Biden is claiming this 1400 stimulus is to finish where the $600 stimulus left off....then the same people who got it then should be getting this 1400 too

We as a couple would never survive on $100k living in MA. It all depends on where you live. You cannot assume that $100 in Arkansas will be the same as $100 in CA. Hence why states should decide on topics such as minimum wage.

I second this. To me, the stimulus money should only go to whoever has taken a financial nose dive because of the pandemic matter.

God bless you always!!!
