Republicans issue warning to trump, your strategy has lost its pizzazz
GOP strategists are slowly discovering the party’s traditional Southern Strategy is no longer effective. Party election experts are coming to the realization that trump has worn out the core component of their Southern Strategy... hate.
In making “enemies” out of different ethnicities, Kevin Phillips’ political blueprint first changed the voting maps of New York City. That was in the 1960s. In 1972, Richard Nixon took Phillips’ plan to the Old South to capitalize on white racism against blacks, surprisingly, it worked just as well in the northern states. The Southern Strategy was born and found to be successful nationwide in national, state, and local elections. The Republican Party had arrived.
Reagan’s campaigns placed blame for the white working class’s problems on the Soviets, the “welfare queens”, and AIDS infected homosexuals, which carried the GOP through the 1980s and George Bush the First. Yes, the Southern Strategy was a smashing success.
But, all good things must end, and for the Southern Strategy, trump ran it into the ground in 2016 and 2020. In 2024, that old pizzazz is gone.
His enemies list gave the white working-class males a wide range of individuals and groups to hate: People of color, immigrants, Hispanics, ambitious women, single moms, drag queens, the LGBTQIA community, foreigners, Muslims, Jews, the educated, abortion doctors, and many others. For many former trump supporters, this was just too many people to hate and took too much energy.
While trump’s deeply devoted followers can easily maintain this level of hatred, to gain the support of enough moderate voters, young voters, women voters, educated voters, Jewish voters, Muslim voters, etc. in time for the November Election, trump must change his tune. At the same time, he must remain the “old trump” to keep his cult members happy.
Now, following another disastrous interview, Republicans issue a warning to trump regarding his worn-out strategy.
