Pro-Israel think tank funds Tommy Robinsonās legal costs
A notorious hardline, pro-Israel conservative think tank has claimed that it is helping fund the legal expenses of jailed far-right British activist Tommy Robinson.
In a statement published Sunday, the Middle East Forum (MEF) also took credit for funding protests that have taken place in support of Robinson, real name Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon.
Robinson was jailed for 13 months in May, āafter being given 10 months for contempt of court, which he admitted, and a further three months for breaching a previous suspended sentenceā.
MEF said it is āhelping Robinson in his moment of dangerā, in āthree main waysā: using āmonies to fund his legal defenceā; ābringing foreign pressure on the UK government to ensure Mr. Robinsonās safety and eventual releaseā; and āorganising and fundingā the 9 June rally in London.
UK: Letter warns of mobilization of far right
According to MEF, the organisation is also āsponsoring and organiaing the second āFree Tommy Robinsonā gathering in London on July 14ā.
The statement was signed by MEF Director Gregg Roman, who has previously āworked in Israelās Defence and Foreign Ministriesā. MEF President Daniel Pipes, meanwhile, has been described by the Southern Poverty Law Centre as an āanti-Muslim activistā.
MEF has previously funded far-right Dutch politician Geert Wildersā legal defence, in 2010 and 2011, āagainst Dutch charges of inciting racial hatredā.
What a shock said nobody ever. Its easy to manage faux outrage when you have the cash.
You have to look at this in a wider context. How much hate are these people funding elsewhere in the world ?
They personify wickedness.
