Nice to see idiots being stopped from destroying expensive firearms for a fraction what they are actually worth.

And in New York today, the gun buy back program ran out of cash. Government doing anything is a fucking joke.

The buyback program has been successful in Baltimore as well:
Baltimore gun buyback takes in 460 guns in wake of Conn. shooting - Baltimore Sun
To take the idea a step further, how about giving anyone who turns in a gun to the police a $100 tax credit on their Federal income taxes? I bet such a program would take several million guns out of circulation.

Sure...I'll pick up a dozen or so junk guns for $20-25 each, turn them in, collect my $1200...and use it to buy that M-1 I have been wanting for a while! Great idea!

If someone knows that the junk guns he possesses are worth $100 each in tax credits, he isn't going to sell them to you at $20 a piece. Why should he if he can take the tax credit for himself? If he has 10 guns and gets a $1000 tax credit for turning them in, but his tax bill that year is only $500, he could carry the remaining credit to use the next year.
