With election season upon us, it's a good time to review political movies. Instead of selecting one of the best, I have chosen one that is probably the most timely. Shirley, the story of the first Black congresswoman, Shirley Chisholm, and her trailblazing run for president. .

Regina King is very good in the lead, the script is good, and Shirley Chisholm was an inspiring figure. However, the movie does not quite capture the real drama in her life. If focuses more on the character than the story but it's still a pretty good movie.

Needless to say this not a movie for conservatives.

I've not seen this, but Shirley Chisholm was an inspiration and I'm glad they made a movie about her. I will watch it based on the subject matter, and also based on the director. He made one movie I watched that was very well done, and also based on a true story.
