If he used a handgun, why did they mention in the first paragraph he owned a legally purchased AR-15?
Just as the New York Times, The Los Angeles Times likes to "hide" the important part of the news - the fact, he was using a legally purchased AR-15 to shoot up people. The fact, they even mentioned that he used it legally is appalling enough. Normally they wouldn't even include that tidbit at all.
Readers that read that liberal garbage is led to believe, "We need more GUN Control".
We already have enough laws on that. We just need people to start prosecuting these idiots more. And make sure they serve their FULL sentences they receive. Just a slap on the wrist is never going to solve the problem(s). They need to be held accountable and be known for it.

Handgun sounds so simple, doesn't it? Just a handgun.
Not nearly as scary as an AR-15!
If he wasn't, he would not have been able to legally purchase any firearm. Especially in California.
But, he didn't use the rifle in his rampage.
There is no proof he had it with him.

Gunman in deadly L.A. shooting rampage had an arsenal of weapons at home, sources say (yahoo.com)
If he used a handgun, why did they mention in the first paragraph he owned a legally purchased AR-15?
A gunman who went on a shooting rampage in Los Angeles on Tuesday — killing two people and wounding two others — had an arsenal of weapons at his home and possessed a legally purchased AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, law enforcement sources told The Times as more details about the incident emerged."
The AR-15 had nothing to do with his rampage.
Well, they're reporting what the police told them. Why would the police say that?

You're missing the point.
Why are they focusing on the AR-15, and not the weapon he used?
The AR-15 had nothing to do with the shooting.
Well, why are YOU focusing on the AR-15 too?
Perhaps it's just like a flame for moths

“At one point, the suspect fired at the officers, resulted in an officer-involved shooting,” LAPD Lt. Raul Jovel said at a news conference. “The suspect was hit by gunfire and was pronounced dead at scene by the local fire department. That suspect’s body is still here at the scene.”
He was eventually identified as 50-year-old Carlos Lopez, of Los Angeles.
