What about offering as an elective part of an education degree an exhaustive course in firearms safety and use and tactical shooting training? I mean, totally train a teacher who wants to learn and perfect these skills, from very qualified instructors.

I'll bet that a teacher with such skills would be in high demand.

I agree that most teachers would not be great choices for being armed.

Just one super-trained bona fide educator in each school would change a lot of statistics.
