It's beyond me why they can't accept their Sikh neighbors and let them follow their own religion without being coerced to convert.

Srinagar, India : In the Kashmir Valley, Sikhs have been recently told to pack up and leave if they do not embrace Islam and help to stand up for the local civilians.The minority Sikh community of 60 000 in the area have been sent letters warning them to leave or join the local protests as Muslims.

Sikh Dharma has a history of conflicts with Islamic forces which resulted in quite a bit of hardship for Sikhs but towards the 17th century, Sikhs started to have upper hand in their battle against Muslim invading forces. The entire current day Pakistan and good portion of Afghanistan was ruled by Sikhs till British started their mischief in Indian subcontinent. It was not an ordinary feat for Sikhs to control this area considering their population in the area was only 8%.

During the partition of India in 1947, there were some gory atrocities committed against Sikhs that were stranded in Pakistan by muslim mobs. Sikh women were raped and then murdered. It was pretty gruesome stuff. There was heavy duty retaliation against muslims as well.
