Russia has invaded the Ukraine by crossing the border seizing a gas plant or something like that.

So now what?

Putin, much like Hitler, will keep annexing the previous soviet bloc countries, until someone does something to stop him from doing so. It is very possible that WWIII has started.

Nothing that comes out of this regime or its mad dog media can be believed.

Even though there will be enough justification from supporters of both the sides for their hard stances, one thing is inevitable: Russia would annex Crimea based on the premise that majority of local people want it. This is going to be a fact because it can be stopped only by a full fledged war involving many countries which no sane society wants.

So what can one do?: Make the best out of the situation. Let Citizens decided if they want to be socialists and suffer under oligarchs or lean towards western capitalism. Second, limit Russia and their partners slowly but firmly over the next few years from all international trade partnerships. Invest heavily on R&D to get free from oligarchs oil and gas dependencies.

Putin has noticed that Obama is not only bent over...but he has brought his own Vaseline.

What do we expect him to do?

Looks like this calls for some behind the scenes diplomacy

It won't start as long as we don't allow you folks to precipitate an action that makes Vietnam and Iraq II look like second grade pushing and shoving.

We are not going to war, neo-cons

None of our business. We are NOT the world's policeman,we need to just sit back take care of things at home and leave it be.

I'd like to see Obama send the ABM units back into Poland and the Czech Republic and call an open NATO meeting to discuss letting more ex-Soviet states join up.

I don't think there is much of anything the United States can do no matter who the leaders in this country are.

Europe has to handle this and by the looks of it, they are just going to let it happen. Europe stands to lose the most and they are weighing options right now but Russia holds all the cards.

If Europe decides on sanctions, Russia counters with higher oil costs which harms the world and turns world opinion against Europe rather than the aggressor.
If Europe gets tougher, Russia cuts off the oil which will throw the world into a even greater recession because of higher oil costs and world opinion will still focus on Europe.

I don't think there is a damn thing anyone can do to stop Russia from doing whatever they want short of war. That's what's so scary about this whole thing in my opinion. Let's just hope and pray our leaders can find a solution.

We thank our President for not knuckling under to the hawks who wanted boots on the ground to stop aggression. At this point, had we sent in troops, we'd be obliged to send more in now.

Once again, Obama wins.

Kerry tried recently and failed, it was expected.

Diplomacy needs to come from the EU. No way would Putin give an edge to anything Obama says, especially after Obama called Putin a Jackass at the G20 meeting last year. It would have been one thing if Obama had called Putin a Jackass in private, however, he did so in front of the other world leaders (G20 members). Not good for diplomacy.

You know Hitler did the same sort of stuff in the 1930s the worlds reaction then was very much the same as it is now don't know about anyone else but I know what that lead to. I'm not suggesting invasion or military action by the U.S. or saying the outcome will be the same just pointing out the similarities here.
