Where the wild things are
Not in the way they should have.

An Israeli student in "The Management college" of Rishon LeZion, have been diagnosed to be infected in tuberculosis, at least 200+ students, and now staff members of the central college in the city have been taken to checkups, now we receive news of hundreds more required checkups, for coming in touch with the student.

We hope to hear good news, that others have not been infected, as well.

(I did not find a source in English, so I could not bring one, sorry)

Lipush it is not as scary as it might seem---
Tuberculosis is not easily transmitted----a check
up could mean simply a little skin test----
which if it turns out postive does
not even mean that the person is
INFECTED-----that standard was to
give such a person a six month
course of a few pills a day to make
sure he does not BECOME
infected ----the postive skin
test just means "exposure"-----even I have
had a positive skin test in the course of my life
HAVING NEVER LEFT the USA do that point----
I did not use the meds and ---later on became
negative-----ie----I never got it despite the
fact that I was working in public health----
and was EXPOSED to lots of people with
ACTIVE TB ----now again----absolutely
no reason to panic if a person comes up
with TB---somewhere----the sickness is
ALL OVER THE WORLD------but not the kind
of thing that goes into EPIDEMIC

(there are issues of varying
strains which are more or less
virulent----but Israeli docs know what to do)

I don't go anywhere near that area, actually. I don't have anything to look for in Rishon LeZion

That's not my point Lipush---actually there is lots of tuberculosis---
hanging around in Israel----the thing that causes it----the little
organism ----can hang around in people causing no apparent
problem for years and years----then something happens----not
necessarily in the lungs----the little thing can even decide to form
up in a bone----or even in the head THE GOOD NEWS --is that there
is nothing at all to be afraid of if you know someone WHO HAS IT.
In fact it is not easy to "catch"-----In general---just about the only
way to get it is by BREATHING IN----some spit droplet coughed out by
someone with ACTIVELY INFECTED LUNGS. Even then----most
of the time nothing happens. I am not trying to minimize----but
any thought you might have that Tuberculosis can be transmitted something
easy like the Flu-----is just very wrong. I assure you ----I have been
in very very close contact with people with tubeculosis-----and HERE I AM!!!!!
I never even took medications sometimes used just to make sure you don't
get sick after exposure. There are sicknesses around ----about which to
be a lot more worried. ------HOWEVER---very lately there are some mutations
of TB---that are more virulent (dangerous) than the old ones-----still
WORRY NOT. -------long ago in Israel----like in the 50s and 60s---
the number of people who came to israel with TB in their bodies ---
was quite an issue------the situation has been ---handled very well
