Sudan has rejected ICC Prosecutor-General remark labeling of rapid support forces as militia, saying the force belongs to Security and Intelligence Service.

Sudan’s response was triggered by ICC Prosecutor-General report to UNSC last Tuesday requesting the Council to seek ways of arresting some Sudanese officials accused of committing crimes in Darfur.

Meanwhile, Sudan Charge dAffaires’ to UN, Ambassador Hassan Hamid on Wednesday issued a response statement saying Sudan is not at all concerned with the ICC proceedings as it is not a party to the court.

Like the rest of other countries, including some UNSC permanent members.

“The report of the ICC prosecutor-general has completely ignored the positive developments Darfur has seen since the launching of the peace process under the Darfur regional Authority,” he added, referring to the African Union loss of confidence in the ICC “AU has lost confidence in the ICC because it has become a political tool for incriminating African leaders,” he noted.

Hamid alluded to the report negligence of the judiciary measures taken by the Darfur prosecutor-general in line with the provisions of the Doha Darfur Peace Agreement.

Reverting to rapid support forces, he said their formation is practiced world-wide when the need arises due to their high skills and quick deployment.

“The deployment of these forces in Darfur and South Kordofan has come in response to rebels recent treacherous attacks on civilians,” he added, saying the government was to act to spread rule of law and restore stability.
