Superpowers Need Heavy Industry...U.S. Steel Making Comeback

The steel industry is making a comeback under President Donald J. Trump. All superpowers through history had heavy industry and steel as their economic backbone.
'Happy with tariffs': Steel industry emerges as trade war winner
Sure. Only according to the article, other industry is suffering. Doesn't a superpower need I don't know, a car industry? Or construction industry? Or a defense industry? Or dozens and dozens of industries that now have to content with higher steel and aluminum prices. Seems a weird thing to applaud the rising fortune of a particular branch of industry at the expense of dozens more. Not to mention the rise in consumer prices this will inevitably result in.

That's complete nonsense. Spain didn't have heavy industry and steel as their economic backbone, they had gold.

The British Empire didn't have heavy industry and steel as its economic backbone, it had ships.

The British Empire is the cradle of modern industry.

I guess you missed the part about US industry is getting less competitive due to the tariffs and that these companies that are squeezed by these tariffs are trying to find ways around the tariffs.

That’s all born out of heavy industry. Coal, steel, iron ore,...other industrial or manufacturing industries branch out from that. Your post is good...but take it back to the root.

Apparently you people have never seen a great America or seen an America with industrial/manufacturing base as its economic backbone. This is not some “old fashioned” bullshit. You need heavy industry. So do liberals think it’s good that China, Japan, and Europe dominates the global steel industry? What won WW2 backing up our men who fought, died, and prosecuted that war? Our heavy industry. You people are too smug for your own good.

You seem to misunderstand what I'm saying. If the root product (steel) like you put it becomes more expensive this adversely affects all other industries that use the product. It's like painting an Ebola outbreak as a boon to the mortician industry. Sure your not lying, on the other hand the disadvantages completely outweigh the advantages.

The United States needs to be and was at one time. So we should cede this position to China or Russia? What’s your point? You must be young and ignorant of American greatness.

You said "All superpowers", Britain is hardly "all superpowers".
