Cleaning up the propaganda mess.

"The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) has wrecked havoc around Syria and Iraq for over two years now and they do not look to be slowing down anytime soon, as they expand their presence to North Africa and the Persian Gulf.

With ISIS’ rapid expansion, several accusations have thrown out, including the alleged collusion between the government of Dr. Bashar Al-Assad and the aforementioned terrorist group.

However, this allegation has been around since ISIS’ genesis in Syria and it remains an ongoing myth that has been propagated by many western publications and members of the Syrian Opposition in order to delegitimize the Syrian government and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

The above map of Syria shows the ground situation at end of September – the colored circles highlight the areas where the rebels or the Syrian Arab Army are combatting ISIS.

As you can see, some fronts tend to have large circles, which illuminate the size of the battle and others (e.g. southern Damascus) have smaller circles where skirmishes are reported.

Reality on the ground depicts a very different situation than what is falsely reported in western publications and political think-tanks; in fact, the Syrian Arab Army engaged ISIS at 11 fronts, while the Islamist rebels engaged ISIS at 5 fronts – not exactly close numbers.

Moreover, the most intense battles taking place inside Syria have been recently reported in east Hama (Khanasser-Ithriya Highway), east Aleppo (Al-Safira and the Deir Hafer Plains), and Deir Ezzor (Military Airport and provincial capital).

In these aforementioned battles, Al-Masdar News recorded 114 SAA casualties over the span of 6 weeks, while ISIS’ death toll is reportedly as low as 250 and as high as 400.

Claiming the Syrian Army does not engage ISIS is ludicrous and the ground situation itself contradicts the propaganda publications that attempt to bolster support for the Syrian Opposition by discrediting the Syrian Arab Army."
