.Idaho has no business making a law about what people do in other states.
Because States have rights. They can make transportation services to abortion clinics and casinos illegal if they wish.
'A bill introduced in Idaho's House of Representatives would criminalize the transportation of a minor within the state or across state lines to seek an abortion as a violation of the state's human trafficking law.
Republican Rep. Barbara Ehardt introduced House Bill 98 on Tuesday, which would amend existing Idaho law "to prohibit the recruiting, harboring, or transporting of a pregnant minor to procure an abortion and to provide certain requirements and restrictions on a civil action," according to the legislation. Idaho has an exemption for rape.
No, I agree with that. The first comment was in relation to the fox article…the second comment was after 1srelluc looked into it further and found that it was about this being done without parental consent. You most certainly can make a law where it is illegal to take someone elses kid out of state for a medical procedure without the parents knowing about it.
Noted, it did not make it illegal for the parents to do this.
Well that's a REALLY FUCKING STUPID LAW. Since a child has no ability to consent to sex, if a child is pregnant, they've been raped. If there is an exception for rape, then the law is useless.
So what exactly is this law preventing?

Well, the law is about doing these things without parental consent, which I agree with. The original article didn’t state that fact.
This is not about other states, obviously. This is about transporting someone across a portion of Idaho to get to the border of another state.
Do you live in Idaho?
If not, it's none of your business.

.I thought conservatives were all about limited government and so forth...

.No, and than fuck for that.
Eh, see this is where I have to disagree. How does a state make a law about what you are going to do in another state, if what you are doing is not illegal in the state you are going to. I guess you could make the argument that a state could charge them for using their highways for the commission of a crime? But the activity is not being performed in their state.Because States have rights. They can make transportation services to abortion clinics and casinos illegal if they wish.

Also, if a bank robber was arrested in one state to rob a bank in another state, would the state they were arrested in be able to charge that person for traversing their state to commit a crime? Likely not, they would just be arrested for planning a crime, not for traveling to the crime.
Besides, abortion services could be considered under the umbrella of interstate commerce, which are federally regulated.
I’m just not good with states trying to prevent people from doing things in other states. If Idaho wants to ban abortion, that’s fine, but what they are trying to do is regulate what people do in other states.
This begs the question….could those other states sue idaho for preventing people from coming to their states for legal services?
That’s not really a good argument on a message board. By the same token, if Californian turned their state into an abortion mill, because you don’t live there…then you should have no opinion, right?.

No, my answer was in response to another discussion where they were suggesting Idaho could arrest someone for traversing their state to get an abortion.Your question has been answered. Parental Rights.
It's not illegal for a parent to take their minor child. It's illegal for someone not the parent without the parents permission.
