Tariffs Cause BMW To Move Production Out Of South Carolina

Although the Republican tariffs will take a while to damage our economy, we’re beginning to see how manufacturers in the US will react. Jacqueline Thomsen reportsin The Hill:

BMW exports more cars from the US than does GM, Ford, or anyone else. And they’re moving production of some their SUVs to China, in response to the recent trade war that Trump started.

And it’s not just existing SUV models that will be affected. Planned future models, including those with technology not yet available to BMW customers, will also be made outside the US. Fred Lambert reports in Electrek that BMW recently confirmed that production of the all-electric iX3 SUV will be in China, using batteries produced in Europe — of course this sort of thing would have been risky to plan in the US due to the Republican trade war in progress, and automakers hate risk. These Chinese-produced BMWs will be exported to other countries, though not likely to the US.

And it’s not just SUVs. Today BMW announced that it will start making Mini cars in China. Bloomberg News reports that BMW AG signed a joint venture with Great Wall Motor Company, China’s leading SUV producer. The 50-50 venture will make electric vehicles for both partners. China is the world’s largest automotive market.

It looks like the 10,000 BMW employees in Spartanburg, South Carolina will be out of luck in all this. They can thank Republicans for the hostile business environment in the US, one that will be costing them jobs.

Tariffs cause BMW to move production out of South Carolina
That doesn't make any sense at all.
Tariffs would instead encourage them to move more production into the US.

This has to be more fake news from the Deep State liars.

Clueless

Coming from buttwads who vote on pure emotion, that rings really hollow and is highly ironic.

It is very logical. If you are producing goods in the US and exporting them overseas then you are at a competitive disadvantage because you are using steel and aluminum that is more expensive than what can be found overseas. Foreign companies who have factories in this country are confronting that reality.
It is a matter of time before American companies who do the same thing like Caterpillar and Boeing confront this reality.

The reason they opened the plant here is to be closer to the market…this is why Volkswagen is in Alabama, I believe it is Hyundai in Mississippi, and Toyota is in Georgia if I recall. The problem is that if they are importing steel and parts that are tariffed to assemble their vehicles in these places, their prices will rise. I guess Trump and his idiot supporters were thinking that these factories would start buying stuff from USS instead of Kobe and run down to Autozone for it’s transmissions….

Not going to happen.

The advantages of economies of scale is lower prices through bulk purchasing; the specs remain the same throughout, the issues can be resolved through one vendor, etc….

Meanwhile, I saw where the PPI rose again and inflation at the wholesale level is setting in. Its only a matter of time until it hits the consumers….the CPI for June comes out later this week. It’s been on the rise as well.

And the trade war hasn’t even gotten over it’s legs yet.
Why isn't the left running them out of the country?
