According to GlobalResearch you’re much more likely to be killed by brain-eating parasites, texting while driving, toddlers, lightning, falling out of bed, alcoholism, food poisoning, choking on food, a financial crash, obesity, medical errors or “Autoerotic Asphyxiation” than by Terrorists
And 55 Times More Likely to be Killed by a Police Officer than a Terrorist.

The U.S. Department of State reports that only 17 U.S. citizens were killed worldwide as a result of terrorism in 2011.* That figure includes deaths in Afghanistan, Iraq and all other theaters of war.
But government may go to great lengths under the pretext of fighting terrorism

Oh, by the way
Costs of War on Terror
A March 2011 Congressional report estimated spending related to the war through fiscal year 2011 at $1.2 trillion, and that spending through 2021 assuming a reduction to 45,000 troops would be $1.8 trillion. A June 2011 academic report covering additional areas of spending related to the war estimated it through 2011 at $2.7 trillion, and long term spending at $5.4 trillion including interest

Statistics are small comfort when you finally run into a curious 16 foot great white in open ocean.

Good point. And nobody assists in the cause of terrorism more than the media. For them it's win-win. Terror gets propagated, which sells papers, which energizes terrorists, who commit terror, which sells papers....

Fine, but Global Research portrays itself as part of "the media." Of course, it's not so much reporting news as it is fabricating it but what's wrong with some hardcore BS amongst friends, eh? I wouldn't be in such a hurry to base an opinion on anything which comes from GR.

No rational and intelligent person gives it any credence.

Right! The real terrorism in our country is going on right under our cute little noses and it is called economic terrorism. There are many ways to destroy a country.

I can assure you I base no opinions on "GR". I've never even heard of it. I base it on what I know about media.

Global Research, Above Top Secret, Rense, Prison Planet, Infowars -- the list goes on and on.

Take one thoroughly uneducated individual lacking critical thinking skills, expose to a bunch of crap and voila -- the vacuum that once existed between the ears has been replaced by somebody else's agenda.

Why all this energy expended on poisoning the well? The statistical point is perfectly valid. Who the source is is profoundly irrelevant. The "list going on and on" is irrelevant when they're stating the obvious.

What's the purpose of whining about the messenger and ignoring its point? "Keep the Fear Alive"?

:dunno:

:dunno:

Comparing willful terror attack casualties to happenstance - that which happens to people during the course of any day - is lame at best and intentionally misleading at worst. Vigilance won't stop lightening strikes but it does blunt terrorism.

The point, itself, is stupid and myopic, that's why.

Terrorism is simply a tactic used by those with a political objective, and rationalizing that we should be unconcerned since any given individual living in the west is currently unlikely to die from it fails to address the actual political objective or the enormous number of those sharing it.

In the case of the Islamist agenda, specifically, putting your fingers in your ears and yelling "nyah, nyah, nyah" is hardly a rational reaction to what is actually occurring in the world. Sure, it is quite fashionable to do so among those who are so frightened that they would downplay it in exactly this fashion, but the false bravado is actually quite telling.

The stats are the stats. Doesn't matter who presents them.

I don't see "false bravado" here. I see a couple of you that seem to be concerned about the possibility of having
hair-fire.gif
challenged by reality. Doesn't matter if they're passed to you in a note given to a Bangladeshi deaf mute who doesn't understand English, the stats are the stats are the stats. "If it bleeds it leads" is a long-established observation of human psychology. The reality of what's actually transpiring in the world has little relationship to mass media impressions.

Case in point: the post above mentions "Islamist agenda". Where did that come from? There's no such mention in the thread before now. Impressions planted in willing heads by media, that's where.

I just don't get why Gullibles don't get that the reason these impressions exist is that first and foremost, Fear sells papers. And to that end they can and will and do amplify, exaggerate, overemphasize and flat-out make shit up.

Then again I don't get why anybody goes to see horror movies. I guess that's the same thing.

Ah, yes -- it's always a conspiracy, isn't it?

Why is it that those who eat up any cockamamie conspiracy idiocy they read at websites designed for the paranoid and stupid are always the first to accuse OTHERS of being gullible?

You still seem hung up on this idea that I'm getting marching orders from a website somewhere. That's strange stuff. Nor did I suggest any sort of "conspiracy".

I work in media, dood. It's been a special area of interest/study/work/creative expression my entire life. These are MY thoughts, not somebody else's. Why would I do that?

Speaking of somebody else's thoughts, where did "Islamist agenda" come from? There was nothing at all like that in the thread before you brought it up in the last post (and then ignored my pointing it out).

See what I mean now?
