Good to see Trump call out Canada in his fiery speech. As a whistleblower and victim of Canadian abuses, it's about time.

I've reached out to his administration, governors bordering Canada, including Cuomo who seemed to be avoiding Ontario PM Kathleen Wynne but then capitulated and removed the "Buy American" premise in the NY budget. I'm relieved that Trump did what was right and passed his latest E.O to "Hire and buy American" at the federal level.

Yes; take it from someone who has paid a steep price, Canada is exploiting and abusing America in trade. Protectionism, taxes, subsidies, outright giving millions of dollars to companies to stay in Canada, and, worse (as I've relayed on here and other places), entering American businesses and spreading interest in unions. This, above and beyond the anti-American propaganda our security apparatus shove down our throats. All of this, on top of our backhand to NATO for years.

If Canada can compete and produce the best and brightest, how come we rely so heavily on buying American jobs? Or protecting so many of our industries? How come so many Canadians have to leave our quasi-communist system for the confines of American free markets?

Thank you Mr. Trump. My family and I have lost a great deal and life changing opportunities by confronting Canadian abuses, and this began a decade ago! Exposing Canadian abuses has at least given me a principled purpose.

. . . so what are you saying, you want America to be more protectionist like the Canada you hate? :eusa_think:

No. I want a fair environment, and business with fair nations who support individual liberty, Rule of Law, Due Process and the like. None of these descriptions apply to Canada.

The unfortunate reality is that far too many Americans don't understand that their nation is unique. The vast majority of nations in the world are socialists, communist, big government, tyrannies and the like. In Canada we have a centralized government which means they believe your rights as a business and an individual don't exist, they are secondary to state whims. Certainly foreign owned businesses are a playground for state operatives. Americans believe in the rule of law, right of self determination and pursuit of happiness, and they naively believe other countries do too. Here's a sad reality, they don't.

Therefore, it is about exploiting these "relationships" for state benefits (or backstabbing). Want to open up a bank in Canada? Good luck to you, it won't happen, even if you had a bankroll of Bill Gates. The beauty of national regulations. Want to compete in a particular sector that Canada doesn't want you to compete in? If they allow you to, prepare for covert intervention in your business. In particular in sectors that were or are "Crown Corporations" (which was the case of the banking industry for a long time).

Every argument I hear regarding jobs coming to Canada are false narratives. I've had these debates with well meaning, well educated people, I have yet to hear a compelling argument. The fact is, Canada is not playing fairly. It's why we are by far the most sued nation in NAFTA. Canada happily pays these multi-million dollar fines because the government KNOWS we are still getting the upper hand. Ironically Canada has focused for decades on what Trump is now...jobs. It concerns Canadian authorities that there is an administration that has opened their eyes and is not going to allow the abuses to continue and is also aware of how important jobs are.

Yep, you got that right U.S. is unique when the Pres can sign an EO to hire American's and he and sons hire from other countries at their properties and vineyard.

I go to Canada every year for at least a month. They know how to sustained n a good fishery. I spend more money there in a month than I do in 11 months here and I am proud of it.
