I don't have an answer.....

In many areas Catholic churches are closing down as congregations dwindle to almost nothing.

In a few the parishes are booming - actually having to build new, larger churches to accommodate the growth of the congregation.

One might think the combination of congregations might be responsible - but that's not the case. The areas with growth are seeing the numbers come from younger people joining the faith. Where the churches are closing the older folks are dying off and the young are not replacing them.

Are you seeing that near you? Any idea what's driving the extreme growth where it is happening???

US Bishops have been doing this for years, decades at the diocesan level. Women have been involved with Vatican responsibilities as well. If anything, the difference is women no longer have to be nuns. They can be parishioners.

Not sure why it shocks non-Catholics to have women in responsible positions. I am not shocked by this; neither was my mom. And neither was my grandmother. Women have have always held meaningful roles in the Catholic Church. Ask Priscilla. And any number of other Christian women.

If you begin with an incorrect premise, the conclusion has no hope of being right. It is not the pope who is infallible, but the teachings of the Catholic Church. Biblical and Apostolic teachings are infallible. The two that have come out of the Catholic Church after the Bible and the Apostles are the Immaculate Conception of Mary; and Mary's Assumption into Heaven.

After great study by the entire Church, it was a Pope who made the final decision on the above now infallible teachings.
